You know you’ve got a good soul when a wee mouse feels safe enough for a cleaning break on your hand!

Scotland and Ireland are the greenest deserts you'll ever visit, is something told to me somewhere I don't remember. Spread the trees folks. We need the earth happy and healthy again.

Went for an acorn, came home with a sapling! That's amazing!

My grandfather picked up an acorn at his brother in law’s funeral and planted it in the garden of his new house. It was magnificent to watch it grow. That was 60 years ago and it is still loved as a climbing frame by his great grandchildren. He is long gone but the tree remains. 😊

Wonderful to see an old friend here, Deirdre. Deirdre is a horticulturist, so you met the right person. Well done.

That's down the road from me and there's a great stand of blackberries there.
I use the lichen covered deadfall from that wood to dye wool a rich brown. The tannins in the bark help fix the colour.

That is wonderful that you are working to return the native oaks to their homes. Here in the USA, there is a group working to restore the native chestnut trees that had been blighted to almost extinction. Best of wishes that you are successful ✨️! 😊

Thats a staggering amount of forest loss. I’m from Michigan and I cherish our forests. We have a huge variety of native species in our state, I genuinely think its something you’d appreciate. Keep planting those trees, you’ve got the right idea going. Long time fan of your reels, God bless ya

A while back I was trimming the grass and I found a white oak sapling. Today it is 20 ft tall beautiful tree. And this year I found two more and a black walnut 🥳

I went fly fishing with a man once. He told me that his teacher told him every student used up one whole tree worth of paper in his or her lifetime. The teacher challenged each student to plant a sapling of their own — that guy planted 50 trees in the land surrounding his rural home, and now there’s a mini forest by his house. If you ever feel that you wanna help the environment, even planting just one tree is enough to decrease your carbon footprint by oh-so much.

I love seeing folks talk about their regions native ecosystems. I work in conservation in South-east Australia, doing a lot of work around native grasslands which are down to under 1% of their original extent due to the destruction caused by agriculture. It's still standard even in my area, with some very ecologically important grassland patches, for urban works to sow exotic "rough lawn" seeds that outcompete native grass and to then mow 5 times a year. So we try and find and document patches to get them protected and bring back some of that native biodiversity.

You are a true woodworker. What you use you gave back to nature. That’s how you do it. God bless you for it.

It’s so interesting that Ireland was once a part of the Appalachia. I live in the forested coast of Maine, and have ancestors from Ireland (from before the famine). It makes me feel closer to them knowing that long before even my ancestors existed, both lands were one.

Also, with all the fights here to protect Maine from deforestation, it saddens me that Ireland was never able to prevent such a fate. I pray that one day with the right efforts, it will reach its former glory & lush! Those plants are too unique, too precious to lose!! Keep up the good work, and much love from the States 💚💚💚
