That's the difference between Mariah and many of the other crazy talented vocalists is that Mariah wrote these songs, produced them, vocal arrangements, background vocals etc. She was a background singer to begin with so background vocals is something she loves and is a genius at.

This was all PRE-autotune. (It wouldn’t come to exist in studio recording until 1998/1999)
Aside from that, Mariah was 100% the kind of artist that would have told you go somewhere if you asked her to use it.

All those vocals are 100% her, and minimally produced.

That is WHY her vocals are so crisp, clear, concise and annunciated.
Simply because there isn’t a ton of robotics covering up the natural character of her voice.

You’re hearing doubling, multitrack layering, and a bit of reverb, possibly chorus and some delay and thats about it.

Mariah Carey was a freak of nature and there will never be another like her.

The resonance, the vocal control, the breath capacity and creativity were all off the charts.
Not to mention a top-notch songwriter and musician.

She has at least 15-16 more # 1 hits, so you haven’t even scratched the surface.

Even her non-hits are bangers.
Keep the Mariah love comin.’
