Youtube Music workers get fired while asking Austin City Council for Google negotiation resolution

As workers urged City Council to pass a resolution asking Google to negotiate with Youtube Music employees, they were told their contract was over.

The move came after the group was hopeful that Austin City Council might be able to help urge their tech giant employers to come to the bargaining table and negotiate. But a year of tension that included a strike, a unionization vote, a return-to-office and National Labor Relations Board disputes, all came to a head when tech staffing agency Cognizant held a meeting in their Austin office informing dozens of workers that their employment contract had ended.

Shoulda known google was going act up when they took “Don’t be Evil.” Off of their mission statement.

"I'm sorry, your time has expired"... That could not have been timed better if they tried....

Why is Google so heavily invested in Cognizant, a company run from India, with unsanitary work conditions, inadequate mental health resources, sexual harassment, workplace violence, AND wage theft being reported within the company? They will fire their own YouTube Music employees... but continue partnering with a company that has had many illegal activities that slid under the media because they paid $$$ to keep it quiet and get the lawsuits away? That is very alarming.

This is why you never give them 2 weeks notice. The same courtesy will never be extended to you.

I don't care what you think about the position they were advocating... that was brutal.

I learned all I needed to know about Texas labor laws when someone who moved to my state of California told me he didn't get mandatory breaks but, instead, they would have "a moment" which literally is a few minutes for breaks and maybe barely enough time to eat lunch.

If you don't stop them, they will run all over you. We are a first-world nation. We allow our corporations to prosper maximally so we need to ensure our workforce has standard quality of life. Those are not mutually exclusive.

Ok, which city council employee came in hot with the little "ding?" The comedic timing...

I propose a rule that you get an extra ten seconds to process the news in case you get laid off in the middle of your speech.

At least we know they will land on their feet in this roaring economy they keep telling us about.

Honestly, them being laid off did them a favour. Lifes too short to be fighting mega-corps over pay.
My department fought a well known supermarket in the UK over terrible pay. They wouldn't budge, so I left. Best thing I ever did. I now earn 4x what I was earning there and promoted twice. If that business paid me a measly increase I'd have missed some great opportunities.
