I can't have reptiles in my current situation, but one day I'd really like to adopt a Leopard Gecko. I know that they get rehomed pretty often since they're so commonly sold and live a long time, and I'd like to give one a great forever home.

I have a leopard gecko and his name is Zeus. My family has had him for about 5 years. They are awesome pets.

Love her! So glad you and your family are enjoying her so much!

Oh p.s the reason she may not be that fond of you might be the fact that you’re the one who’s cleaning her enclosure. They have a special little place in their heart dedicated solely to vendetta for people who go and mess around inside their house 😂

Not a fish related video but I loved it :)
You also kinda got me interested in those beautiful reptiles too💁‍♂️

Great video! My teenage son did tons of research for his first pet/reptile and picked the leopard gecko for a lot of these same reasons, right around when this video came out. His gecko even decided that a certain bowl in the enclosure was her “toilet” and only goes in the bowl! Terrific pet :) (I’m still a fish-mom, so I’ll keep following you there 😆)

I love Blue Tongue lizards. Here in Australia they live wild in our gardens, even in the middle of the cities. In fact it not unusual to see them sunning themselves in the middle of lawns.

I know there is a like button, but there should be a really like button, because I really like this video! Your kids are adorable and now you've got your funny and hammy son helping. Cool.

I love that you named her Dax after the Deep Space Nine character!

An interesting look at another species. I love and enjoy my aquariums, but if I were to get adventurous and look into something different, you have my interest peeked on this leopard gecko. Nice enjoyable video. I love every video I’ve seen of yours though! I don’t post very often so I’ve been a quiet fan ha🙂

A great introduction and review. You common sense approach and paternal insights are invaluable!

I was enamored by the name “Dax, ” however, you had me at “potty trained.”

I am not sure if it is genetics or education, but you co-host has the family talent for conveying science to the masses. Thank him for us.

Thanks to both of you for a wonderful video,
Jim

Oh, thems fighten words! My next name will reflect the hobby, and my crested gecko breeding program (once the tanks are done). I'll have to send you a message somehow, I feel like I know you. I guess I watch too much and you do well at responding.

Anyway, here's my contribution the the flame war you're inciting:

I like a humid, room temperature reptile that doesn't need uvb. While my Mistking does the bulk of the heavy lifting, it's tank design and setup that keep it humid. The water table, for one, and the fact that it's mostly glass. Also, foggers are just cool with bromeliads. My whole set up is "on wheels". Meaning it's so easy. They are room temperature, don't need basking spots, They don't even NEED live food, as it's in some pangea/repashy varieties. And wow is that premade stuff easier than the baby food and supplements we used to use. Though I offer live food as part of enrichment.

Heat lamps Heat the room for you. I live in Dixie, I have enough heat, and my a/c is expensive. Heat rocks, I'm told, are risky. Are heating pads? Those are new to me, I'm not sure they were in use in the old days before pangea.

Cleanup: for me, it's trimming plants with poop on them and letting them fall and get devoured my legionnaires. If it's on the glass, I spray it off if I see it soon enough, and again, let the bugs eat it. Extra food? Bugs will eat that too!

My geckos always prefer me. They are probably used to the smell or something. If others handle them, They look around and jump from them to me.

I have never attempted a come command with my geckos. So.... Yeah I'm saying the leopard wins on that one.

The last thing: the tail. Yes, a stressed gecko drops their tail. I've seen it happen, at shows. Kid buys gecko, takes it out at the show, it takes off. Pretty soon, no tail.

And this is why I'm going to breed the chewie. No tail loss.
