It's not buffering lactate.. Lactate is an energy source.
It is buffering the hydrogen ions which are acidic and reduces the body's ability to efficiently produce atp

So additionaly beta alanine supplementation has been shown to increase carnosine levels in muscles... which also act as a ph buffer.
Beta-alanine takes weeks of supplementing to build up levels of carnosine, however, while bicarbonate is pretty immediate.

Here's a couple more thrown 4 good measure.
1) Celery Juice .
2) Black Currant Dried Powder .

As a former World Canoe Team C1 Slalom Canoe & White Water C1 Paddler l used a meal called
" Banana Dynamite " 🍌
Gave me untold energy with another trick 2 give me untold energy.

As 4 this lovely Gal . Have come across her b4 .

G Said after the 2023 giro time trial that he felt like he was missing some power after using the bicarbs for it. Does it just not work for everyone or was that TT already too long to be useful

Used PR AMP lotion but it always give bad cramps the day after the event it was used for. Takes a full week to recover.
