That kid fooling him into following a false trail, & back tracking was...probably the smartest thing I've ever seen in a horror movie

I know Kubrick has said that it means he was a reincarnation, but I always took it to mean that Jack was “absorbed” by the hotel and he’s stuck in a sort of limbo where it’s always 1921.

The echo of the song in the background is done so well

There is something that chills me to my absolute core about that almost abrupt cut from Jack’s Frosty demise to that slow crawl towards the wall of pictures.

I always found the scene of him frozen to be really unintentionally funny. But then the photo at the end is haunting.

100 years since this picture was taken. Only the men in it can know the euphoria proved in that precise moment.

The most poignant thing about the end is that throughout the movie, Kubrick did everything he could to constantly remind the viewer of how isolated the place is, then edits this song with a bunch of reverb so it sounds like the song is playing from within the hotel, the song bouncing around in such vast space. Perfect

He looks completely consumed by the hotel here but still mortal hence him dying. But after his death he's seen on the wall. Thus forever immortal in a way. I'm on shrooms

That sudden lingering cut to jack’s frozen body paired with the sound effect genuinely scared me more than most jumpscares from recent horror movies

I watched this movie like 3 years ago and didn't think it was scary much. Rewatching this scene however, the jump cut from Jack sitting down to being frozen is utterly chilling

This movie has a really haunting ending. There's many theories made about the ending but I see it as Jack being absorbed by the hotel and that the hotel makes tragic histories repeat themselves in a hellish cycle. Nothing beats the horror classics like this film!

I honestly think this is the best ending in cinematic history

Imagine dying and then you show up in a pic from 60 years ago

Like the murdered twins, Jack dies, and so his soul is trapped by the hotel. Cursed to wander its halls forever.

Part of me thought that his frozen body was gonna be found, in Doctor Sleep, but the bartender bit was ok!

I’m going to be brutally honest, when I first watched the Shining, I didn’t really find it all that scary. However, Room 237 was terrifying. That ending with Jack Torrence in the picture was pretty unsettling.

0:22 - I just love the way that vehicle just disappears into the night behind the fog that was blowing behind them. That’s what I call a dramatic exit.

This scene is what makes this movie a masterpiece! And worth watching. Many may think just because you know all the other famous scenes that it’s not worth watching, but this makes it totally worth it!
