I recall reading a book called The Cholesterol Myth, by Dr. Uffe Ravnskov written in the 1990s. In it he wrote that the benefits of the statins was NOT their LDL-lowering properties, but their anti-inflammatory properties. And here we are, 35 years later.

I found out about colchicine about 8 years ago with a bout of gout. And found out where all my back problems were because of the inflammation in my body. Started down the road to good nutrition and supplementation with turmeric and several others. Haven't' had those rotten back injections in 6 years and the body is getting much better with the LIFE changes. The food is the biggest problem in the USA. This is the biggest change that anyone can Just turned 67 2 months ago and my cardiologist doesn't even question me anymore. See him twice a year just to do the normal tests. As a matter of fact, he has told me that I know far more than anyone coming to his office. And yes I still have my cheat LOL

There are a lot of Dental inflammations/small infections that p/ts have that are dismissed by Dentists and Docs, there are blood tests to check for staph/strep, molds parasites ect with sub- acute infections, why not find out the cause of inflammation increasing LDL rather than use a statin or similiar

Colchicine did reduce mortality from cardiovascular events, as expected, but increased other mortality because it is an immune suppressant. The net effect is that it did NOT change the overall mortality from all causes i.e. it shifts deaths from cardiovascular causes to other causes.

Regarding long exposure to glucose as "burning" the arterial lining, that is a good non-technical description for lay folks, but not geeky enough for nerds who like the mechanistic details. Physionics did a good video a short while back describing one of the primary pathways causing inflammation, where glucose saturated endothelial cells result in deformed cells that allow lipids, inflammation factors and other bodies get on the back side of the lining contributing to plaque formation. 🤓 - Don't let Tony's claws shred your arteries.

Doc, 35+% in the prevention was RELATIVE risk. The absolute is ~2%. That is very important point

Speaking of inflammation, Liposomal Serrapeptase/Nattokinase is in the marketplace.

My cardiologist put me on colchicine, and the only side effect was that my platlet count went low. For 3 months now, I have been taking low dose colchicine 3 times a week and have no side effects.

There is a podcast by Valentín Fuster at JACC, where he recommends 0.5 mg of colchicine per day for individuals with established arterial plaque, normal kidney function (possibly liver as well, though I can't remember for sure), and whose high-sensitivity CRP is above 2 mg/L. He also recommends it along with a statin when LDL-c is above 70 mg/dL.

So aspirin, garlic and other dietary substances such as turmeric all do decrease inflammation. Cath lab, cardiologists keep me as a nurse and hundreds of others, employed, fortunately or unfortunately.

well...the stent is for emergency use, not just plumbing.
yes, they seem to go too quickly, but still...if there is a 70 to 90 percent blockage, you gotta clear it

yes..THEN work on reducing the inflammation and slow down the damage.

Asprin can cause anemia and it also can interfere with iron absorption. Look it up on the Harvard University and other medical institutional websites.

Why not consider using homeopathic colchicine? More than twenty years ago I experienced two painful bouts of gout, and completely relieved those symptoms with colchicum autumnalis, which is homeopathically prepared colchicine. Homeopathic remedies are by nature minute doses so overdosing should not be a problem.

Dr Brewer - I have extreme problems with the Jupiter trial and even if I could accept what it is supposed to be showing, that would be very short term and probably not as good as a host of other interventions. Is there any other evidence that you are
looking at to show that statins lower
inflammation?

Colchicine is still widely prescribed for gout. I have a scipt in my drawer right now. Haven't had any side effects myself.

I was trying to understand why and how this drug, Colchicine, works. What is it doing to bring down inflammation?

There has to be something going on- maybe on the molecular level.?

And I wonder what other plant has something that work as well and maybe without the side effects?

Nuts, Berries, beets, vegetables, fruits, etc.
