The challenge is for those of us who were raised in a generation where we were outside playing all day....and didnt even have sunscreen...dating myself, lol.

I have blond hair, blue eyes, pale skin, freckles, and burned badly many times as a child. I’m mid 70’s now and am paying dearly for childhood burns. I get “zapped” every time I see my dermatologist and have had surgical removal of Basel cell carcinomas. I use sunscreen every day, even in Canadian winter, as I have had a sunburn while skiing in February.

A common misconception is you can't get a sunburn when it's cloudy! The worst time to go to the beach without sunscreen is when it's cloudy! Some people think the sun won't find them if it's hidden by clouds!
I'm fair skinned so I don't spend a lot of time in the sun. I do acquire a lot of freckles whenever I'm in the sun too long.
Being in Texas, we've already experienced extremely hot days and summer hasn't officially begun. Last week we had a day when the heat index was 116°! This is another reason to stay out of the sun!
I grew up in a time when people weren't afraid to lay out in the sun! 🌞 I really never saw the point of that and today we can't stand to be outside for over 5 minutes!
My father had and my brother has melanoma. Good reasons for me to keep out of the sun! If I get sunburned, it's purely accidental and generally doesn't happen. Like I said, it's too hot to linger in the sun!🥵
Thanks for sharing another great video! 👍

Just started listening to your videos. They are great! You are clear and concise. No agendas-just unbiased reports on general consensus of research. Love it! Could you talk about gall bladder removal and later issues it might cause?

I've had a few red backs as a kid when being in Southern Italy.

Labourers who work outside, as I have done in the past(long time ago now), should really take care of protecting themselves.
Not like I did, walking around with unclothed upperbody, just to get a tan (🤦‍♂"You idiot!🤦‍♂).
The neck especially has to be taken care of. People can wear cloths, but the neck and face are often still catching a lot of sun.

Spot on, thanks for this video. Well done. Genetics are the anti heros! My parents and our family were always in the summer sun. They ended up with basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers. We siblings as well. We use sunscreen for now, never had it as kids. We burned like crazy as kids.

Stage 1 melanoma a year ago. Sun screen and watching mid day sun are my new imperatives. Don't kid yourself, it can happen to you. If you're lucky it's only stage 1 as mine was.

Consumer Reports lab tests sunscreens every year. They measure the *actual* SPF, compared to the rating. Most sunscreen brands provide somewhat less protection than advertised, but it is shocking to see how some brands offer nowhere near the level of protection they claim in their SPF rating.

Mohs surgery twice for basal cell. Grew up on beach. Played golf in deep South since 1980. I see dermatoligist every 6 mos.

Every time you guys put out a new video, I go to bed smarter than I was when I woke up. Also, your video reminded me I need to go see my dermatologist to get some more skin cancer removed from my face and back. That’s what happens when you grow up on a farm and spend your entire summer working in the fields without a shirt on making hay.

Yes, true, however what about vitamin D absorption? Should we use a 30 SPF vs. 60 SPF?

I’m fair skinned and lived on the beach and surfed my whole life and never used sunscreen until I was around 30. Now I’m 57 and have had
my first BCC removed a few years ago and my first melanoma(stage1a)removed last month. I’m resigned that this will not be my only run ins with skin cancer. It’s sucks but it’s my fault for being so careless for so many years. I still surf but now I’m using 60spf lotion on my face and 60 spray everywhere else when I’m outdoors and in the water. Might be too little too late at this point as the damage was done many many years ago 🤷🏻‍♂️

Sunscreen helps but can't be relied upon to completely stop all harmful uv.

Thank you so much for this. And absolutely..my dear friend who passed of melanoma who was black, first saw evidence of melanoma on her big toe. They amputated but it was too late. Sunbathing thank goodness is not as popular as it was back in the day.

One we have not control over and one we have complete control over. All the crowded beaches all over the world with people baking themselves. It's a wonder the frequency of skin cancer isn't much higher

Hello docs my dermatologist told me to apply sun screen even if I was wearing a long sleeve shirt. I reckon its better to be safe the sorry because if you don't and you get skin cancer you will wish you would have listened . You all have a great week
