From the time of day to the type of sunscree, Dr. James Grichnik of USF Health Dermatology gives the best advice on avoiding skin damage and possibly skin cancer.

Grichnik recommends doing activities early in the day or later in the day to avoid the noon-day sun, when it's highest in the sky and the most amount of ultraviolet light gets through.

Grichnick says physical blocker sunscreen, ones based on zinc oxide or titanium dioxide actually reflect the light away from the skin instead of clear sunscreens which absorb light. Grichnik recommends 30 or higher. Clothing is also a great protecter against the sun, but don't forget about other areas like your head and ears.
