Basic Fighter Tactics

Basic tactics taught to F-106 pilots in Cold War to combat MiGs. Starting with the hard turn, the Defensive Turn, the Scissors, the High Speed Yo-Yo, and the Barrel Roll Attack. I was an instructor in Aerial Combat Tactics for the F-106 and taught these maneuvers to our pilots. We then deployed to South Korea, where I nearly had a battle with 20 MiGs (see video North Korean MiGs).

Need anymore of a reason why the seniors in our world are of such immense value? Need a reason elders deserve respect & should never be underestimated? I think this man is a perfect example. So many older folks are more amazing than ever given credit & just vastly underrated.

Our elders collectively hold what would seem like endless amounts of knowledge & wisdom, I think many (myself included) tend not to give as much thought about & often overlook the seniors we cross paths with in life. I’d be willing to bet if we were to stop & take just a few minutes every so often to pick their brain, we would be amazed at what we learn & more times than not, walk away a wealthier person having gained wisdom passed down from a more experienced, knowledgeable generation.

This video is pure gold. The fun part is that it is usefull to ordinary people trying to master dogfight on multiplayer dogfight servers of the military flight sims, like il2 and dcs, even warthunder.

When the scissors were explained, i wanted to start about the High Yo-Yo, then i scrolled down and saw it was the next topic.. Yes, i can say it does work rather well in combat flight simulators. Especially when you are higher than everyone else, and dive with you buddy onto other planes flying. You unload on them an then pull up again. If there are not too many other enemy planes flying around you can pursuit with the high yo-yo. But that was with WW2 planes that could withstand high speeds like the FW190. With all these guided missiles, you would not want a nose of an airplane on you even when its from down there.

I really liked the explanation of the barrel roll attack. It really showed it well, better than the illustrations going around on the internet. I checked "Basic fighter maneuvers" on wikipedia, it should have most maneuvers on it.

The three basic air combat maneuver's any fighter pilot must master to survive combat.. Thank you for your service sir, I was expecting in there to be revisit of the Rudder Reversal maneuver you'd talked about with the F-106's as well as when you showed it to the Navy pilot who was with you in the F-100 in Vietnam.
