If you’re on the keto diet but not losing weight, there are some common and easily fixable reasons why weight loss isn’t happening.

Are you on the keto diet but not losing weight? I will explain what you’re doing wrong. This is the most common question I get and here’s what you need to know: your body will only use fat in the absence of glucose.

Hidden carbs really keep people from tapping into ketosis and losing weight. These are ingredients like maltodextrin and tapioca starch. Maybe you’re not doing intermittent fasting so you’re having snacks between meals. Pay attention to carbs and bring them down to 10 or fewer grams per day.

You could be bloating or constipated because you’re eating too often, consuming sugar alcohols, certain nuts, cheese, or certain vegetables. If you’re eating often you spike insulin more often, leading to visceral fat around your gut. Or if you have small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), check out the link below.

You may be eating too frequently. People in their forties or older may need to go to one meal a day (OMAD) because they have a slow metabolism. I put a link below.

When you go through menopause you get a spike of cortisol, leading to muscle atrophy. You may think you have fat in places that are really your muscles wasting away. On keto, it may take time to grow your muscles back. It may also take time for keto to help heal your severe insulin resistance. The whole philosophy I teach is to get healthy to lose weight, not lose weight to get healthy. Focus on improving your health so you’ll be more successful: higher energy, better cognitive function and sleep, improved resistance to sleep will all contribute to your success. It’s not only about weight loss; there are many other health benefits you can get from being on the keto diet.

Too much protein can raise your insulin so be sure to eat a moderate amount of it. I recommend three to six ounces, although if you’re a big person who is very active you could go to as much as eight ounces that’s all. Sounds odd that too much protein might prevent your weight loss, but it can.

The keto diet can definitely work for you for weight loss; you may simply have to do some adjustments.

Your teachings have revolutionized my family's health. In the last few months my dad has lost 50 lbs, my mom 22 lbs, and I have lost 11.5 lbs. My dad's half inch long bone spurs on his heels have shrunk by half and the pain and inflammation nearly gone. My mom's 13 year insomnia problem after her brain injury is gone. We all feel better than ever. Thank you for teaching us the truth. I can't express how thankful I am.

Thank you. Im doing strict keto, eating 1100 calories, workout (weights) 5 times weekly, and not losing. It’s disheartening. Going to put these tips into action, especially limiting to 1-2 meals daily. I weigh 144lbs, and stuck here for weeks. 49 year old female. Thanks Dr Berg ❤

Excellent video. Dr. Berg you always get to the point quickly and I really appreciate that about your videos. You also explain your point in a manner anyone can understand, but most of all you actually give true and helpful information. Thank you!!!

I am not on 100% keto and the weight is right for me. BMI 18%, lots of energy and stamina. Deep sleep and good mood. I do OMAD and I love it. I also don't mess much with junk food, but I love nutritive foods: eggs, fish, legume, seeds, nuts, avocados, berries. All your videos are straight to the point Mr. Berg. Keep up the good work. God bless you.

I think I've managed to do all the wrong things. I lost weight early after starting keto, when I ate omad, spinach salad and salmon, every day. Then I downloaded a meal plan and went strictly by the meal plan which was 3xday meals. I've lost very little weight since then. So, I will definitely go back to omad. Dr. Berg is awesome!!

Been doing keto for 6 weeks now and incorporating OMAD has been really helpful. Lost 8 lbs in the first month but I had a few cheat meals while going out. However this month I have been strict so far and my clothes are looser and I feel great. Waiting to weigh myself at the end of the month. Don't want to get too obsessed with the scale. Thank you Dr. Berg for all the great advice... from a Caribbean teacher on her weight loss journey 😊

10 carbs of less is tough because Many things have carbs. Mynute amount of carbs add up

Peanut butter 4 carbs per serving.
Salad 6 plus cabs if you eat 6 cups of salad.
Meat has carbs since we use spices.
Cheese may have carbs due to cheese types.

I love these kind of videos because sometimes the ones who are already on a ketogenic diet also need help and get stuck so these little reminders and how to get over the hickkups is crucial. I love that. Thank you.

Measure inches not pounds. Folks get discouraged by the scale but ignore that their pants are loose or their shirts have more room.

I stumbled on one of your videos last week and I’m so happy I did! I only wish I’d found your content sooner. I’m 53 and in one year I’ve gained 30lbs via a perfect storm of factors - job stress, menopause, and breaking my ankle so I wasn’t able to walk or exercise for 4 months. I’m one week into following the healthy keto eating plan and already seeing results in my energy and sleep.

I initially had issues too. When I combined keto with intermittent fasting is when I saw my best results. I really want to get back to that but I found it restrictive at times.
