Project Binky (Bad Obsession Motorsport turbo mini) at Weston Park - driving onto trailer 16-10-2022

Binky should need no introduction, but in case it does go visit @Bad Obsession Motorsport to see the build in it's full excessive bracket detail. Here Nik Blackhurst fires up Binky at the end of the show and loads it onto the trailer, which is just wide enough.

Nik & Richard brought Binky to the Historic Rally Festival at Weston Park on Sunday 16th October 2022. The Festival is a celebration of classic rally cars, which can be seen in action throughout the weekend at various locations near Telford.

For those that like to speculate - no, Binky is not finished. Nik had to reassemble the car for the show, even then parts were missing on the stand and Nik fired it up only a few times as the map is not sorted, idiot lights on the dash were not wired up and safety cutouts in the ECU are not implemented. What you see in the video represents probably 1/4 of the mileage the car has done in public under it's own power. Once finished, a proper rolling road session is needed to sort out the map so it runs properly. None of this stops the car being awesome in the metal - you missed out if you didn't come and see it!

Many thanks to the @Bad Obsession Motorsport team. Although I never did get a bit of that banana cake.

Nik is a clever guy, he installed a switchable tune to go from sorted to balky carburetor cold start mode on demand. Makes for quite the realistic depiction at a rustic venue.

Hahaha, who said Minis haven’t got feelings! Even when you try to rip it’s beating heart out, it still retains that “nah, not today” attitude. Once a Classic Mini always a Classic Mini 😂

Glad you kept the original character, she bad starts, stalls and misfires just like a proper mini ;)

After the years following this build, it's nice to see Binky finally moving under it's own power, albeit a bit hit and miss but that's to be expected considering Binky is a prototype and a one off

I can't believe I am watching Binky move here and not on BOM's channel

A perfect example of the quote “perfection is the enemy of done”. Speaking of which, I am. What a bummer.

Amazing it still sounds like an A series engine

Even though that’s a Celica in there it still sounds like a Mini.

that tickover needs a bracket making to hold it up!

8 years later, and it won’t stay running. I’m disappointed.

Hi Great - how about an update program on what has changed. It has been part of my life growing up and many others

Yes good to see, but too early yet, it is not yet really finished enough to go on show.
I would love to see the finished car and admire all those brackets.

I really would like to see a final episode on binky.
An update would provide some closure after 9 years.

Its alive! It's alive!! (You can hear it breathe!)

Seriously though, I have concerns that there is not enough room behind the radiators for the waste/hot air to escape and freash/cooling air to pass through, meaning Binky might overheat. For an analogy, consider Betz's Law.

When you get the escargot done you need to film an Italian job special and drive it in while driving the escargot. Just don't tip it over a cliff 👍
