Love it! Great video man! I am in the process of gathering more clients and transitioning from free to paid. I'm definitely going to go to my local farmers markets

Before, I always wanted to get paid. I never got any contracts. Then, when I started made a first attempt of making a short film, it was a complete fail! I realized I talked a big game but played a small one. That was a huge dose of humility. It's been a year now, and I have been practicing doing stuff for free and boy was that helpful! So I agree, do stuff for free first, figure out your workflow, get better at it and then sell your service with confidence.

Cool tips. It's also important to let beginners know they will get a lot of people not calling back or reaching out at the start. Just don't get discouraged.

Hey, I'd love to see a video breakdown of budgeting and how someone can out a price on each project. :)

I went to a random small venue concert for a band known around the midwest and took a few photos and videos. just posting that alone expanded visibility. I am now friends with the band that their followers started following.

Just fallen into a deep hole of watching all of your videos this afternoon, such killer content and I love that you include tips for beginners! When you were starting out your business, did you have a day-job on the side to help pay bills and if so, when did you decide to go full-time?

Great advice! I was doing free services, but currently editing my last free music video. Im at a point when ppl are asking for video deals, which lets me know that I'm there, the point where all hard work and money can pay off. My advise, offer atleast 3-4 free to dirt cheap videos or as many as you want until you are sure of your work..but don't break yourself doing so...don't put too much into it than you can afford..set a certain budget..my budget was 30- 40 bucks for props. In due time, it will all pay for itself.

Just came across your channel today and I've already subscribed! You have amazing videos and I always think it's cool to find other Canadian videographer Youtubers. Love your stuff!

The main service is video making, the product is the video. Customer service is something that is in every industry, not your main service here. But yes it is important.

Yes! When you're starting out you should always do it for free or cheap, just so you make a bunch of connections and as soon as your name is out there you start charging, just gotta make sure people don't take advantage of you.

Love your videos brother! Keep doing you. Informative, yet concise - something that's seems to be quite rare these days on youtube. Nice colours btw ;)

I've worked for agencies for the last few years and starting to head out on my own. Farmers markets is a great shout! I've never thought of that before.

Awesome channel dude! Love the honesty. I get lots of people asking me on mine how they can start filmmaking and getting paid work, and I pretty much tell them the exact same thing. Build yourself a portfolio and be honest to the person you're pitching to, and the work will speak for itself. I went around to all the 'nicer' restaurants in my neighbourhood and offered them a free video and photos with an instagram/facebook promotion strategy plan. I hadn't thought of the farmer's market though, that's a brilliant idea! :-) Subbed!
