Meh, depends on how much you make off of your video work. The EOS M does pretty decent for its weight class, especially if you play to its strengths. It's nice that we have so many great options for all budgets! And it is definitely diminishing returns the more expensive you go.

With my tests I've concluded that the eos without any noise reduction has 10-11 stops of DR exactly, but when noise reduction is involved and utilized to it's maximum, it climbs up to 1 stop below the alexa so about 13.5. Both are 14bit sensors capable of resolving up to 14 stops with an SNR of 1, but where the Alexa has a clear advantage is its Dual gain output, which nets it an extra stop.

Funny thing is that when the dual iso function of the eos m is used, the DRis neck and neck with the Alexa, giving it close to 15 stops of DR, but at a massive cost to resolution. The best I've gotten out of the EOS M with Dual iso and 14bit mode still active is about 1.6MP while the Alexa can do 4, 6MP in RAW and 2MP in Prores, so it still wins by a huge margin.

try the OG BMCC 2.5k - the Fairchild sensor in it is very close to an Alexa. In fact, ON Semiconductors that manufacture the ALEV 3 sensor for Arri bought out Fairchild for $2.4 billion, only 4 years after the BMCC 2.5k's release.

The colours on the Alexa are completely blown out and messy. Eosm has a nice balance and details can be seen. How you can think the Alexa has better colours is shocking 😄

It looks like the EOS M has some infrared pollution. Have you tried it with an IR cut filter?

i know this is now a year old, but since then the crop mood version of magic lantern has come out, and a whole lot of the 'buginess' of Magic Lantern has been resolved. Personally, I now love my two eos m cameras with ML on them. But the main point here is like comparing apples to oranges, I paid 100 bucks for my cameras. Some of us just can't afford high end stuff, even if it's used, but no matter what camera you use, a lot of computing power and costs go into the editing side, and lenses also. Also, the eos m is an aps-c, not a super 35 sensor as stated.

You should redo it and test 3k mode thats true 3000 resolution on canon M and not lineskipped 1080p that you shot with, 5k is not a true 5k mode, its upscaled (stretched left-right) and it resolves about 2.3k, not as sharp as 2.5k but good thing about 3k is that you can shoot with CCTV lenses toget shallower DOF cause some are f1.4 across the range of 12-100mm
