Multiplication, addition, subtraction of a matrix with a constant is what you would think it is?

Either row or column both represent lines. In case of matrix order 1 × 1 means there is only one element in the matrix. My question is how a matrix having one element can have an order 1 × 1 because one element (point) can never trace a line either horizontal or vertical or in any direction.
