I just received my LRS+. They are excellent! The sound stage is amazing. You can walk by them and feel like the band is in the room. The bass is sufficient. I added a little from the amplifier. I am only driving them with a 100 watt per channel (4 ohms) tube amp. Is loud enough for my bedroom. You should double the wattage if you were driving loud movies and such in a large room. But, this sounds excellent.

After a long time without a serious Audio system and two of my sons investing in some good old school equipment, I bought a pair of Magnepan 1.7i. I took them to the son with the best system at the time. (Both have respectable audio systems) After hooking them up and turning them on for the first time, after literally 10 seconds my other son turned to me and said now he knows what is wrong with every other speaker he has ever heard. The lack of box is just so instantly apparent.

I've always thought of Maggies more as drivers and the room is the cabinet.

I got my LRS+ a couple of days ago. All I have to say is wow! I had the original LRS on order around 3 years ago but the waiting list was so long that I cancelled the order and purchased a pair of Emotiva T2+ instead which were the about the same price. The Emotiva's sound great but I knew I was missing something. I listen mostly to jazz and classical and occasionally some light rock. I also occasionally listen to high energy fusion such as Mahavishnu Orchestra when I'm in the mood. The LRS fit the bill for the most part. I'm running them with an Outlaw Audio 2160-MkII and Cambridge Azur 851N, I mostly play FLAC files ripped from CDs I own. I also have a Rotel CD11 Tribute. This setup is minimal. My room is not that large where I can take full advantage of the LRS but they sound just great. The best sound of course is placing yourself in the sweet spot directly in front of them but honestly, they sound good even when not directly in front. The detail in the upper mid range and the highs are life like. The bass sounds great for most of the music I listen to but I may get a sub down the road to provide a little more bottom and sound stage. If any of you listen to a lot of ECM recordings for Jazz and classical you'll love these.

You are so right, I have had these for a few months now and they are still improving. I will be installing the magnariser mk7 stands in the next week or so and I will update this post. Thanks for the return call a few days ago, I enjoyed it. I am still working on getting the MG 3.6 upgrade you told me about.

Hi: I enjoyed your video extolling the virtues of Magnapan panel speakers. I've been a Maggie lover ever since my first pair of Maggie's, the MG-II's, many years ago then the 1.6's which followed. My current set up consists of the 1.7's, on Mye stands with the fuses by-passed, which as you'd mentioned did make a huge difference. Along with the 1.7's I have a pair of REL R-205 subs to round out the extreme bottom end. For amplification an Audio Space KT-88 integrated amp, Michell Gyro Dec SE with Rega RB 3000 tone arm and a Benz-Micro LP-S MR moving coil cartridge attached to a Funk Firm cartridge de-coupler. This intern is patched into the fabulous Fosgate Signature Tube phono pre-am. For CD reproduction I'm using a Shanling tubed CD-300 CD player XLR'd into a Schiit Audio Yggdrasil DAC a truly amazing sounding system. Some background I've been a professional studio/touring musician for over 40 years and now I finally have a system that does justice to the studio masters I've acquired over these many years and of course my extensive vinyl and CD collection! Keep up the good work I appreciate your in-depth videos!

Cool stuff, Mikey. I have always said that small Maggie's were the best choice for good audio at a reasonable price. However in the past, distant past, the expense of an amp that could drive them usually negated the price range of someone putting together their first system. I am interested to hear what you have to say about current day amps that can get the job done with these speakers, and how much the amps will cost. Rock On !!

Yeah man. I think I'm going to have to order a pair. I couple years ago I had an order in for the original LRS but the wait for them was too long. I ended up getting a pair of Emotiva T2+ which were the same price. They are pretty good but I think I still want the LRS. I'd be running them with a Outlaw RR2160 MkII with a Cambridge Audio Azure 851N to play FLAC files.

Hello Mikey we were talking during the lockdown and I had just started to build a system and I had a $2000 budget, so now I have….
Magnepan LRS (and I just ordered the new ones)
Hypex nCore Amplifier which I built from a kit, Mini DSP crossover at 80 Hz to 2 Klipsch 12 inch powered subwoofers I’m still playing around with the preamp but right now using an Emotiva DAC. I would also like to purchase the fuse upgrade kit for the LRS from you asap.☮️❤️

I moved the brown wire to the positive terminal with the red wire and moved the black wire where the brown wire was (because it is completely out of the loop and is safely tied down). Now, the brown wire (like the red wire) goes directly from the positive input straight to the crossover. The brown wire is connected to the tweeter part of the crossover, and the red wire goes to the mid/woofer part. The difference in sound quality is amazing. Much cleaner sound.

Fantastic for mids & highs...now what do I do for bass?

I love Thievery Corporation. Saw them live at Camp Bisco many years ago. They are like the kings of collabs. Have one of the best music catalogues ever made.

I need to hear these speakers.

Right on Mikey Brother. Got them right after Capital Audiofest and they are truly amazing even full range and using them in my triamped system for the mid-bass/lower midrange, and they are doing better than the highly acclaimed Purifi 6.5 inch driver in that same range of 80 to 500 Hz. It will be great to hear some demos that you set up with them. I am using custom homemade Purifi 1ET400A monoblocks with super power supplies for this frequency range and they sound fantastic for this important frequency range. They are the perfect match to the linesource of 8 NEO8 planar magnetic drivers on each side too that go from 500 Hz up. Thanks for showing people how easy it is to get into high-end sound and super imaging with these amazing planar magnetic quasi-ribbon drivers. Just a small correction - They are 48 inches high, not 3 ft. Fantastic Jim
