As to "dich" turning into "di". There was an old joke about president Kennedy visiting Schweiz. The whole point was Kennedy introduced himself, which sounded like "kenne di" getting "kenne di nöd" in response.

I am brazilian andI love to listen you because you make me remember a good time I had in Switzerland when I lived with a Swiss family in altebremgarten strasse. I remember to teach to these two little boy and girl Raphael and Nataly the Naval battle game. By the way Nataly was my spye and my sweiz dutch teacher. She taught me words like under gegangen getroffen doch, that was a good way to learn your language by playing Naval Battle with children. During this time I was making a long term course at ABB.

in most case the ending -ung becomes to -ig (Kreuzung/Chrüzig, Zeitung/Zitig, Meldung/Meldig usw)

I remember when I lived in Basel, rather than tschüess, it was normal to say tschau (from Italian ciao). Saying tschüess marked you out as a learner, or a German. At least, it seemed that way to me.
Is that still common?

Gosh, high German is much more straightforward

Be careful people woul'd like to speack French. We almost NEVER say "Adieu" to say goodbye, cause it's a very very sad world ! It's ONLY use in the case where you know you'll never see again the person ! So it's NOT the swiss "Adie" neither the spanish "adios". French people say "Au revoir", "Salut", "Ciao", "Bye bye", sometimes "A plus" (abreviation of "à plus tard !") or yes it's true, sometimes, "Tchuss" ! But no, no and no, don't say "Adieu" in France !!!
