This was a very informative and fun video to watch as a BMW master tech. Here at the dealership, when a car comes in with transmission problems, if its under warranty, we create a TSARA case and the ZF specialist usually tells us to either replace mechatronics or replace transmission, if its out of warranty, we usually just quote a trans. transmission problems are few and far in between however, ZF really makes a strong durable unit and from the looks of it, pretty repair friendly as well

thank you for sharing this video. I am about to rebuild my ZF8HP45 in my 2015 BMW 535i xdrive, and this video is very helpful. I believe my E clutch hub is damaged, but will be pulling everything apart to verify. Spare parts will come from a spare RWD 8HP45 in my parts car. Also looking at upgraded E clutch hubs

Wow that’s impressive. Like a surgeon on the operating table. Found this video because I have a 528 with a 8hp45 that is giving a p0890 code. Started after jumping someone off. When the code goes away it drives perfect for 4 days then it comes back. Stinks because I never know when it’s gonna happen and I end up stranded. All the shops want to do is replace the transmission which will cost me more than car is worth.

It had a 12345 code which is interesting because that is the same code to get into my luggage. Awesome video I was waiting for this transmission.

I have a 2014 Durango with 277, 000 miles has the zf 8hp when it shifts from 1-5 all shudder and 1-2 gears have a whine. Any input is appreciated. Also i just bought it i believe the fluid is original. O and no codes.

Thanks a lot, Gary! There is always something new to learn when I watch your videos. Do you mind telling me how you remove the split-rings in general, because when I read through the ZF-Repair-manual for the 5hp24 for example, they always mention a mandrel-press and Special-tools, so I was wondering how you do it? Anyway, very helpful and absolutely informative! Keep it up

Thank you. My car shakes a lot when im driv8ng very slowly going up the hill. When i press the brake i feel something disengaging and the shaking stops. Could that be the lock-up clutch in the torque converter?

Why did you sent the torque converter to converter shop?Leakage? Stator problem ? TC clutches problem?😊

I'd like to ask a question, RE: reluctor I'm noticing on. Cams and wheel speed sensors; they have magnetic Reluctors...
Including at the flexplate - as for inside the zf8hp45 ? What part number and what is the part name inside the trans ?
Also, since you may answer, one more...
Question; after a couple comments...
my truck has the pentastar 3.6 with obviously the zf8hp45,
I'm aware that the zf8hp70 is to handle more torque to mate onto the V8 hemi...
Can I swap my zf8hp45 for a zf8hp70 ?

Good evening Gary, I'm back with an update. So I ran some testing on my 8HP45 in my 3 series BMW, with code 420641 "Parking Lock Defectively engaged". ISTA said replace mechatronics, so I just swapped out the mechatronics and installed a known working unit, and got it coded to my car Whelp, after all that, I'm still getting the same exact single code, and still cannot shift out of park. Every time I try D, N, or R it just kicks right back to P.

I read it could maybe be an issue with the parking pawl, but some suggested that if that was my issue, I wouldn't be able to put it into park, whereas my issue is the opposite and I can't get it out of park.

Any suggestions?
