Just wanted to clarify, 8hp70 is going in the flow max car. But I want to play with and push the 8hp45 in something else.

our 8hp45 has been used and abused daily for over a year without issue. It's being run on a 650-680whp N54 in an e92, the xDrive variant. Clutch pressures and Charge times have not changed at all! mine you, we're using the CanTCU with high torque reduction, easier shifting, less load on clutches and all-around quicker shifts. We've been VERY impressed, I'm about to install another 8hp45 into my 135i aiming for 700whp+!

Definitely something affordable would be ideal. I think once you guys crack this, the swap will be accessible to a lot of people and I for one am really looking forward to having one behind my N54.
On the other hand, it'd be really cool to go the 70 route just to see how far you can push the platform with such a beast of a box attached to it.

Decisions, decisions.

I think most are already afraid of the cost. There has to be a way to run the 8hp45 without the $4000 controller, that would be the holy grail. I can't believe that someone like Xhp who has lots of experience in both can't work out the coding. I also think the 8hp70 box is going to be tough to find for anyone in the states, not a lot of diesels here, and not a lot of them dying an early death in the junkyard. The 8HP is a better transmission, comparing my n54 6hp, my n55 6hp (both tuned) to a family members stock n55 8hp, the 8 shifts and drives better. That all being said you didn't actually break the 6hp even with all that power, you simply drove through the clutches, that could be fixed with better frictions. IDK it's all interesting but I think keeping it as cheap as possible will ultimately benefit the most who may be watching this. I say if the purpose of this is information and research change your path and start with the 8hp45 in the flomax car. Hell put the 8hp70 in Oreally and see what happens.

I get a shudder in 5th gear in my 328d. It’s making about 480 ft lbs. Would that be torque converter shudder or are the clutch discs get wonky? I know that there’s a upgrade zip kit for the discs but I can’t find an upgraded diesel TC that’s not $4k

Cool vid. Where did you source the zf8hp70?

We have a driver in our drift championship that drove a 8hp70 for this season, no problems, plugged into a turbo N62B44 running 920wph and 1150wNm. They seem quite stout boxes.

My buddy is building his b58 from the bottom to top end to make 1200hp. As for the transmission, he's leaving it stock, the zf8 in the b58 lasts anywhere 650-700 pretty well. Depending on your torque limits using Xhp, it will depend the longevity with the actual gearbox. Pure makes a stage 1 rated for i think 800 hp? and the stage 2 for 1000, take it with a grain of salt.

Will watch on to see how it's unfolded 😁

I haven't heard anyone causing damage in the 8hp. The most issues I've heard is tuning the factory TCU to not limit torque on gear changes

Im currently building an s14 driftcar looking to go the 8hp route.
Its a 1jz looking at about 400-450whp so fairly low hp for a driftcar.

My question is, do you think an 8hp45 will be able to handle it or should i go with the 8hp70 straight away? The 70 is about twice the price here in norway. My concern is with the amount of clutch kicks we do that the gearbox wouldnt be able to handle it over time.

Great video on explaining the differences between the 8HP70 and 45. Looking at Wikipedia, the 8HP70 and 45 have the same gear ratios but are different to the gear ratios in the 8HP75 and 50 which are the same. As a result, the diff ratios vary with 3.3 for the 8HP70/45 and 3.46 for the 8HP75/50 which matches the 335i diff ratio. A 8HP75 would be ideal but I would imagine they are like hen's teeth to find and would cost heaps of cash to purchase.

I'm looking at your kits and trying to decide what's the best way to go. I have a NA Miata with a BP (VVT Turbo) engine. I'm looking at the 8HP45 trans. I think it'll handle the 350 track horsepower I want to achieve with this set up. I use the car for HPDE and Time attack. Any recommendations you have?

Cheap trans option please then send it, see how long it lasts then upgrade!
