When you add the numbers, you get 108 which is the # of minutes before each reset

There was a game online in the mid-late 2000s called “the impossible quiz”

The questions were mix of obscure general knowledge, trick questions, puzzles, riddles, games, jokes (where the question was a joke and the answer was the punchline, but you didn’t know which questions were which and when the right answer is actually a red herring, the the joke answer was correct)

You got timed on each question and if you took too long you lost and had to start again, if you answered wrong you lost and had to start again.

It was addictive, and you had to keep trying until you won remembering the right answers each time until you got to the last question you lost on, and try and win this time……

My sister was better than me at it, she’s 4 years my senior and smart as a whip. I’d lose around question 20 or so then her run she’d get to question 100 or so. Each round getting closer……

I watched her turns and she was two questions away from the end (which was question 108) and the 2nd last question showed you a 70s era computer and keyboard (black screen green letters, button on keyboard that said “execute” the question was “enter the code and save the world”

She was enraged because it made no sense to her, it was a cheat because there were no clues, or hints at all. She said it was crap that they’d put an impossible question at the end.

I said nothing, smiled and said “I know it”

She snickered thinking I was joking and trying to lighten the mood.

“Click, 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 then press execute”

She rolled her eyes and said “you’re trying to make me lose so it’s your turn again and you know all but the last 2 questions now”

I replied “if I’m wrong then you can have another turn before me”

She reluctantly entered the code and hit execute, not because she thought I was right but just because I offered to let her take my turn if I was wrong.

She hit execute and the screen went green and then said “question 109…..”

She was shocked, I was right and for fun I didn’t tell her how I knew, but she googled it layer and found out.

But the funny part was we watched the first 2 seasons of lost together.

In a way the candidates represent both the constants and the variables in an equation that determines the fate of the world. The numbers are always associated with impending but not unalterable destruction. They are the fingerprints of Fate.

I played the numbers the day that 4 of them came up in a big lottery in 2011. It was an incredible day. All of your videos are fantastic but this one could definitely be expanded to explain the Valenzetti Equation. Awesome job as always!

Nice, just finished the show yesterday so your series came out at coincidentally great time ;) Looking forward to seeing more things from the show explained/explored. I absolutely loved how the numbers were tied into all of the characters lives and to how their destiny always involved The Island. I'd always try to look for them if any numbers were present in a scene. Not to mention all the other freaky coincidences of different characters appearing in each others lives which I thought was such a fun and unique aspect of the show that really hit home the fact that their fates were always meant to be intertwined somehow.

One piece of feedback, I think it would enhance your videos if you included real voice narration as the automated robot voice might be off-putting to some.

Great work! I love that you delve into the Numbers beyond the Valenzetti equation, because the Valenzetti equation only explains why DHARMA broadcasted them. The Numbers is bigger than that, and like you added with the source code, something that transcends an equation. I've always seen it as a thematic pattern. It acted like the “language of The Island”, a metonym for destiny, luring them to that place and towards each other. Carlton Cuse said in 2007 that “The show in some sense is about how we are all intertwined in our lives” something that is shown through the massive use of The Numbers as easter eggs and signs in the show. The Numbers being riddled around the show and being the driving force of the characters ending up on The Island and fulfilling their destiny. And like you said - complete the time loop.

Question for you. Hurley was never touched by Jacob and willed toward the island until very late in the game, as opposed to say Kate or Sawyer. Was Hurley not a candidate until later in the game? Do you think the island or source brought him to the island through the numbers as opposed to Jacob using the numbers to bring him to the island?

Well it's also the degree of the radial in the lighthouse.
Jacob use those degrees to see which candidates are coming, if you see at 23 degrees, you will se Christian Shepard house

They where all lost, they had lost they’re families, when every person dies it signifies that they are not lost anymore and they found they’re family. The island is the sign of lost and in the end is a sign of finding the family they where lost with. That’s what made the best finale show of all time. They where never lost in a island, they where lost real in life, the island is metaphorical being stuck of they’re struggles in life. Death in the island metaphorical means they’re not lost no more.

So everything John locke said was absolutely right

My take on it was always that the Numbers represent the most important Candidates and that the Island was calling out for them which I think is similar to what you are saying here but you gave a broader meaning. I like the Matrix comparison. But what do you think happened when the Numbers were used? Why did Hurley and Larry win by using them? Where they exploiting a glitch in the matrix or was it just always meant to happen by the Island's design? Larry hears the Numbers > Larry uses the Numbers > Hurley hears the Numbers > Hurley uses the Numbers > Hurley gets to the Island.

I think the throwaway line that Jacob had a thing for numbers should have been changed. The Island has a thing for numbers.

Sort of like Parato’s law. They are both Italian and apply to most things in life

Maybe I’m missing something, but are the numbers themselves actually part of the timeloop? I see how the island was using them to get people to the island to complete it. But I don’t see how anyone from the future brought them back in time. It would have been an interesting twist if Hurley had shouted out the numbers trying to stop them from being used and caused them to change what the original serial numbers/passcode had been.

Yes, this is the type of thing that would have been very weird to fully explain during the course of the show, and people would have still complained about it.

You really should’ve made this video 31 seconds longer
