#LeaveNoQuestionUnanswered #LOSTexplained

The first chapter in a series of LOST EXPLAINED videos that investigate the mythology and mysteries from the seminal television series LOST. These definitive explanations are based on multiple viewings of the show over the years and careful studying of the details, clues, inconsistencies and contradictions that make up the complex tapestry of what is the greatest television show from the 2000s.

Chapter One explores the nature of "The Source", aka the electromagnetic light beneath the island. This video explains what it is and why it is so important. Other mysteries explored and explained include the flash sideways, the cave of light, the cork, and why the world was at risk if the cork was unplugged.

I always thought this was the meaning behind lost but I wasn’t sure. It’s super metaphysical and even has ideas of quantum theory, eastern religious themes like samsara, ideas like nirvana, the light, timelessness, western theories of spacetime, etc. “see you in another life, brother.”
I like how you noted the ideas of repetition and needing to re learn things.
I loved the whole Daniel faraday arc, Desmonds arc, and everything to do with the electromagnetism.

The most beautiful explanation of the Source. I particularly appreciate the connection you made between the Source and the after life, so the flashsideways, because of what Mother said (the light is the source of life, death and rebirth), so there is no existence without the light. I also think that the Island is alive. I love your videos

Just started watching it for the 4th time. My 14 yr old son watches it for the first time and absolutely loves it. Gonna watch all your episodes too! Thanks! The DVD box really has some cool extra stuff on it btw!

This is genius man, "the cork is the ancient version of the fail safe key". This explains a lot!
I was very interested in the Egyptian aspect of things, because I love ancient astronaut theories etc.
I wonder, could the Pyramids have been one of these "pockets" and that's how they knew of the Island? Isn't the main Pyramid of Giza situated on top of the "earths mass center"?

Amazing that a show can have people still have people asking questions 10 years on, thanks!

This is great stuff. I always wondered why there wasn’t a channel like this dedicated to explaining the lore of one of my fav shows of all time!

I like the idea that you have to warn people that this video will contain spoilers. Like some idiot will click on a video called "Lost Explained" and then be surprised that you talk about stuff that happened in the show.

I'm not it's been pointed out here, but i feel it worth mentioning the significance of the song "Catch a Falling star" - featured throughout the show. It was the song Claire wanted to be sung to hear baby, and recurs through out the show, most notable following the temple invasion by smokey after he murders all the others. The lyrics seem highly related to the source --

Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Never let it fade away
Catch a falling star and put it in your pocket
Save it for a rainy day
For love may come and tap you on the shoulder
Some starless night
Just in case you feel you wanna' hold her
You'll have a pocketful of starlight

My interpretation of this at the time was that perhaps the source itself was possibly from outer space. It is afterall, never explicity said where the island and everything it can do came from. Did everything come about from the energy of a dying star, from some place far away? Possibly. I think it's been said before humanity could have been brought into the existnece from the energy or traces of life that was embedded in a piece of space rock that crashed into Earth millions of years ago.

The lyrics echo the sentiment of preserving/protecting the source/energy, and the various pockets of energy that lay littered around the island, but it's also used a child's lullaby to stress the idea that the source is like a parent, singing or calling to humanity (still in it's infancy) to help them understand what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. And of course, in the end it's all about love, and the peace of mind it eventually affords everyone in the end. Are we being guided by celestial beings? Sure, why not?

Damn, dude! And I thought I considered myself an expert on this show. These are some really impressive ideas that actually sound extremely plausible. If they ever wrote an encyclopaedia on the lore and mythology of LOST, they should definitely get you to write it haha.

Your series is the most comprehensive overview of the show. It makes a rewatch that much more enjoyable. Thank you for your efforts.

Explaining the source helps to understanding Across the Sea is critical to the story.

This is the best explanation for the light, the source and the cork I've heard.
