E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982) - 'Escape' scene [1080]

Part 1 of the famous 'Escape/Chase/Saying Goodbye' scene and cue - most probably the best 15 minutes of film scoring ever. The marriage between Spielberg's images and John Williams' music on screen is so perfect that it is impossible to imagine one without the other. The score was the fourth in history, and third by Williams (after Jaws and Star Wars) to win the Oscar, Golden Globe, Grammy, and BAFTA.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, and starring Henry Thomas, Peter Coyote, Drew Barrymore, Robert MacNaughton and Dee Wallace. Music, of course, by John Williams.

Notice the friends when they see E.T. for the first time: guy takes off mask (speak no evil), guy takes off glasses (see no evil), headphones (hear no evil). Probably wasn’t intentional but still cool.

The best ever scene in a film, in my opinion. The child actors are all brilliant in this. Little Drew Barrymore was so cute.

you cut off the joke at the end where the kid says "can't he just beam up?" and Elliott says "this is reality, Greg"

Oh, I just love the scene with Drew Barrymore at 2:29. She's so happy and enthusiastic, never gives a secont thought about those flowers all over her mothers face! It makes the scene so chaotic and vivid and at the same time so real.

1:10 Michael starting the car and driving off right at that part of the music is just glorious. I love this movie to pieces

This movie does not look like 1982 it looks more like 1989 or 1991. This is timeless masterpiece

We had it too good innthe 80s. Best movies. Best music. Best video games. Best everything.

If I pull up on my friends with federal agents literally on my ass and I tell em to get the squad and meet me at the spot in 5 and they don't respond with as much enthusiasm as michael's friends do in this scene, they not my friends man

FUN FACT: The crew originally wanted to have Elliot and E.T. taken to a hospital ward, but they couldn't find a hospital that suited for the movie. That was until Steven Spielberg came up with a different, yet brilliant idea. After returning to LAX from an international flight, Steven noticed some pneumatic structures that were used for flights during construction of the Tom Bradley International Terminal, which gave Steven the idea to have a long, plastic, pneumatic tube stretch down the driveway from the house to the van, and then to have a huge PVC sheet wrapped around the house.

After all these years I understand the 'I don't know, mom always drives me!' line. Ie. They're just children.

There are good friends, and then there's great friends that will join you in a high speed bicycle chase to elude well-intentioned but misguided government agents in an effort to return your alien friend back to his spaceship. I love how these kids don't miss a beat and don't hesitate for a minute to help their friends. They're just like, "Let's do it!" Haha, 80's suburban gangsters, all for a good cause!

There's something so satisfying about seeing Elliott pull those pins out.
