I was born in the 80's and my father had an evening job in a video store. He would watch films at home so that he would know what they are all about and talk to the customers about them and I was exposed to all the great films from that kept a copy of E.T at home and I would literally watch it every morning (that was before I went to nursery school)....this film was (and still is) pure cinematic magic to me. The cinematography, the characters, the music, the special effects....Spielberg's signature directing that I can't describe, but you just know.

This movie was on TV today. I only knew it was on because my mum was watching it but it was right near the end, E.T going onto the spaceship and going up, the rainbow etc, along with the music... I watched from the doorway and had a lump in my throat and trying not to tear up.
This scene too is so amazing.

In the film the boys were trying to save ET so he can return home to his mother ship. I think they were all heroes to me. The government agents were bent on trying to destroy ET.

So some E.T.'s appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. Based on E.T.'s powers in his movie, that means he's a Jedi or at least Force-sensitive.

This was C Thomas Howell's debut appearance and definitely one of his better appearances despite having only a few lines. His next 2 movies were considerably darker in theme. The Outsiders in 1983 and Red Dawn in 1984.

this is, in my opinion, Spielberg’s masterpiece

my favourite part is the one where the police officer, in order to stop a horde of teens on a bike with a super powered alien, instead of parking those cars a little closer or using a gun, makes the same gesture my grandma does to get rid of a fly or to call the kitten for tea time.

I always liked this part more than the "moon flying" scene. Both amazing scenes though.

1:09 I didn’t know why they had that close up

But then I noticed his pupils expand

it kinda doesnt make sense he would close his eye for nothing since theres no actual threat lol With guns it becomes more logical that someone would close their eyes.
Either way its a fantastic film. Love it.
