JJ single-handedly carrying ESPN's basketball analysis while running one of the best NBA podcasts out there

This is the difference between a writer and a player. JJ is a blessing to basketball discussions on this network

I LOVE JJs take, It drives me crazy when people don't understand that the illegal defense changes were far more important that the fouls. For the same reason, Kobe Bryant's career is horribly underrated, as the game took a while to adjust to the new rules and add a lot of shooters to space the floor, Kobe faced constant soft double and triple teams, something that Jordan just never had to deal with.

SAS telling JJ not to yell and then immediately yell is mind boggling 😂

Never seen JJ get heated, and awesome to see that he can also stay articulate at the same time. Appreciated him as a player but appreciate him even more now as a former great player turned great analyst.

Best take of JJ’s career. I wish I could describe what I’ve been saying for years, but I’ve never played basketball at that level before. I appreciate JJ articulating this reality. I dare those guys from the 90s to play at this pace. Guys like Hakeem and MJ could have did it with others. Those guys and others took care of their bodies, which I don’t think the majority of the league did so like this before Kobe/Bron/Steph era. Evolution should mathematically tell us how much harder it is to do it now. The amount of endurance required these days is insane

Stephen A telling JJ not to be dismissive while he’s being dismissive is crazy

JJ is easily my favorite ESPN analyst he actually makes SENSE when he gives opinions.

People love to talk about the 80s-90s as the best defensive eras, but it was really the early to mid 00s when Lebron was young. Watch those Pistons/Spurs/Pacer teams, they were barely allowing 90 pts per game. That Pistons/Spurs finals was basically a first to 80 pts series, and Bron was still averaging 30 during that period.

JJ brought up a very valid point about the pace of possessions. As an exercise science/kinesiology major, we learn that the leading cause of injury across the board is “wear and tear” and stress on the tendons/ ligaments (micro tears) without a proper and lengthy recovery. Your body needs proper and quality time to recover especially in joints with the ball and socket mechanism due to them having great mobility, but less stability. Exercise at a high intensity/pace day in and day out is incredibly taxing on the body even with proper strength and mobility exercises. You must also think about cartilage degeneration with repeated action over time. Staying healthy and on top of your game for as long as Lebron has is mind-boggling and many suspect him of taking/spending millions on researched steroids without significant adverse effects to enhance his recovery to an unprecedented degree.

Why is Mad Dog even allowed to talk about basketball on television? We need more people like JJ who understand the greatness of all eras not just the 90's and earlier.

JJ is next level and doesn’t do it solely for entertainment, like most. A representation of Coach K’s excellence; JJ is a master at his craft.

You know, a lot of people say LeBron has done this all in a weaker league where fouls aren’t as hard, players don’t play as physical, etc. but they forget that the league morphed into that, BECAUSE OF MJ. They literally changed the rules of hand checking, and amount of contact you could put on an offensive player before it was a foul, BECAUSE OF MJ. Now granted, they HAD to hit MJ that hard to even slow him down slightly, but when you take a step back and look at it? They changed the rules to cater to their “golden goose”. The NBA saw what MJ could become for them and their brand, and changed the rules to suit that narrative. But no one ever talks about that 💀. Also, taking years off to go mess around in baseball, to me is considered a vacation. Both physically and mentally. Then he got to come right back after he already retired, and do it again 💀. They catered to MJ. Point blank period. He was their “golden boy” and their ticket to league success, so they changed everything for him.

The entire time, all Stephen A does here is give LeBron backhanded compliments. Stephen A and Skip have done more bad for the game of basketball then good, dividing the fanbase with “who’s better” and never allowing fans to enjoy players’ greatness. On the night LeBron surpasses Kareem, it’s crazy that MJ is still being mentioned here, just give the man his flowers bro ffs 🤦🏻‍♂️
