HOW TO MAKE A DA VINCI BRIDGE // Full-size Leonardo Da Vinci bridge

Ever wondered how to make a Da Vinci bridge? We made a full-size Leonardo Da Vinci bridge that could hold the weight of a father and son.

This design was invented by Leonardo Da Vinci as a bridge that could be quickly assembled with no fasteners such as nails or ropes.

You can build a version out of popsicle sticks by following the directions below:

Or, try it using pencils (this one is much harder):

Good video!
Just a tip: when you go to drill the semicircular notches with the Forstner bit, it's much easier and more accurate if you gang a pair of the 2x4s against each other, edge to edge, and drill into the valley where they meet. It makes the bit self-centering, and ensures symmetrical notches. (It's also twice as fast.) Bar clamps work fine for holding them together while drilling.

First I thought I thought you had 62 K subs but then I noticed it was only 62. I think your channel is worth 62 K subs

Try alternating between inside outside on each section you assemble. The friction will help with stability and you'll have a more balanced base.

At the next visit of my grandson or granddaughter ( eight years old ), the wood will be ready. What a wonderful project to do with children and what a surprise. Pierre Grégoire, La Malbaie, Québec, Canada

If you wanted to use this bridge design as the top of an arch garden trellis, that had 4 straight vertical legs, how do you determine the length of each bridge piece to build a specific base width of the arch trellis?

I like what you are doing with your son! Just got another subscriber. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos.

Your channel looks like those of 100k or 500k subs. Truly like the video quality. Just by the way, if you film far from where you are speaking, I think you'd like to get a mic :)

I'm going to attempt this! But I have one question...how far away from the end of the 2x4 did you drill each of those notches??

suggestion for drilling? Clamp two 2x4s together and push hole saw right in the middle making two half hole slots with one push and avoiding hole saw climbing out of place ...allows the guide bit a center hole to follow ...no?

Good job u and ur son did together.. Always nice doing stuff like that together. Longer 2x4, no notches, like the first people I saw looked a bit easier to put together and walk on cuz not so steep have u tried that one??

Using this to make an arch ramp for small motorcycles out of pallet wood, thus dispersing the weight over the two contact points while preventing the sharp angle at the top where machines drag the middle.

Imma build a friction house. Challenge accepted. Slight wind breeze get out of my way.

You had used an 1"1/4 round wooden bar and 2" x 4" rectangular bar. Does it work with 3cm round bar versus 5 x 5cm square bar? Do you have a document specifying the load which can withstands this bridge? I am willing to build one; however, as a mechanical engineer, I am not familiar with structural or civil design.
