This was one of your best videos yet. I have always had trouble returning volleys, especially high volleys as you explain them, and I'm the "never had a tennis lesson in his life" guy with his off- hand dangling uselessly down by my side, but when I tried your technique with both arms up in the air, the difference in my ability to effectively return the ball was truly astonishing! Also, loved your counter-intuitive explanation of why it's more effective to return low volleys "down the line" in front of you rather than attempt cross-court - can't wait to put this into practice. Good tips Ryan. I usually go cross court for low volleys to go for a sexy winner (low percentage) and I also swing down for high volleys instead of keeping the head high on the finish. My technique will benefit from these tips.

Thanks for the 2nd tip with the non-hitting hand...no wonder I hit easy volleys to the net sometimes. I probably bring my racquet down much more than I realise.

Great video! A pusher I play often hits short low drop shots. When I run up and hit it like you showed, he lobs me every time. Should I try to hit a drop shot back to him?

But compared to forehand, I felt like the ball was far from my racket and ended up hitting ball weak and short.
