I had sudden onset of by far the worst excruciating pain in my life which was eventually diagnosed as a kidney stone. Accompanied by several hours of literally nonstop violent vomiting, and hours of nonstop sweating so unprecedented that the towel I was using looked like it had been pulled out of a swimming pool. Never in my life knew such excruciation was even possible. Was driven to ER which was completely unprepared and incapable of dealing with patients in such dire condition. No triage, no nothing for hours. The female clerk started asking all the usual questions about identity and insurance, but I it was all I could do from my wheelchair, still nonstop violently puking into a bucket on my lap, to barely utter the words "Too sick, can't talk". What the hell is wrong with these people??? There is no private room to just vomit nonstop in intense pain, but you have to sit for a few hours waiting with other patients who have fatigue or a sore knee or a hangnail. It is humiliating and infuriating that the ER makes zero accomodation for violently ill patients.

Honestly, on a scale of 1 to 10, the pain was off the charts, like 100. After more hours of this suffering and waiting, they finally took me in for an MRI, doing nothing about my intense pain for another hour. At last imaging revealed a large jagged kidney stone. Then got a shot of morphine which gave absolutely zero in pain relief. Nada. Forty five minutes later got delaudid, and that gave some relief. In the end the ER never treated the kidney stone. No idea where it went because it never passed. Got 2nd shot of delaudid, still in a lot of pain, and they sent me home with a bill for nearly $5500.

So my experience? When this violently sick, one feels going to the ER is a must. But they did nothing but let me suffer very intensely for hours longer, and create the worst humiliating public exposure of my life. And on a tiny fixed income I was financially ruined by the bill I got.

I do wish I knew a Hospital that will not send you out of the Hospital because they tell you " We do not care for stomach problems, go see your Gastrointestinal Doctor" and then proceeds to tell you that you have to leave.

In California unless you have good insurance you do not go to the emergency room. Going there only means you will wait there and suffer, they give you something equal to Mylanta, and or tell you it is all in your head and send you home. Hope you do not Die.
