Hurricane Milton update: 5:45 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7

Within hours, Hurricane Milton "explosively intensified" from a Category 2 storm to a powerful, major Category 5 hurricane. While it's forecast to bring dangerous conditions to Florida and the Tampa Bay area, Milton is expected to weaken before reaching landfall sometime midweek.

Milton came on the scene on Saturday as a tropical storm. Early Monday morning, Milton kicked off a rapid intensification starting as a Category 2 storm. By noon, the storm had strengthened to a large Category 5 hurricane, the National Hurricane Center said.

It went from a Cat 2 to a Cat 5 in less than 48 hours. Get out, please don't take the chance of riding this one out. Rescue workers will need all their resources.

From NewOrleans area I remember how this felt August 28th 2005 when Katrina was raging and heading at us .
To see a storm so powerful bearing down on your home, Felt surreal like I was in a movie . I pray this thing can weaken somewhat and its track jog a bit cause I don’t want to see happen to you what happened to us . Please if your in an evacuation order get out please. The storm surge takes no prisoners and shows no mercy.

They should make a Cat 5 + which they will never have a CAT 6.. but 180mph is unheard of.... could even get a little stronger.. but then again weather and winds alotf and or wind shear could change in 24 hours.. then it could keep the strenght and or weaken but in any case.. this is no joke.. get OUT.. ppl im sure were saying " we will be OK with Helene"

I’ve read they talked about dropping something in a hurricane years ago that would dry them out. Raising barometric pressure! Probably dropping something into hurricanes to make them stronger faster.

If you live in Florida, having flood insurance is crucial! Support from FEMA and the Government by itself is insufficient to fully restore your home!

Tampa Bay being hit from this direction west to east is inconceivable. Bad luck atmosphere pattern at play. Worst case scenario for Florida. Incredible amount of energy in the ocean and atmosphere. We observed this since Patricia multiple times. these storms go from minor storm to CAT5 in 24 hours. You can't plan for that. I scratched my head on Patricia. Beyond belief. This is not even close to the mean, averages, or any computational models we have. The problem with exponential feedback loops is, once you realize you are in one, it is too late. The looting will be crazy. Face eating homeless zombie crazy. It's Florida. Tampa metro area will be devastated. We will witness the Hunger Games worse than Katrina. I'm so sorry. My beloved Florida. Just awful.
