Hurricane Milton forecast, 5 a.m. on Oct. 7, 2024

Hurricane Milton strengthened into a Category 2 storm on Monday morning as it churned toward Florida, where it's expected to make landfall along the west coast on Wednesday. According to the 5 a.m. advisory from the National Hurricane Center, Milton has maximum sustained winds of 100 mph and is moving east-southeast at 8 mph. Milton is expected to strengthen into a major hurricane on Monday, then further intensify to a Category 4 hurricane in the central Gulf of Mexico and weaken just slightly before making landfall as it encounters more wind shear.

I wanted to mention as a person who has lived in several different areas of Tampa, I wanted to give you an inside scope of the drainage systems. Although some areas of tampa havent been required to evacuate. I think it would do some benefit to inform people to leave areas of Tampa where the drainage systems are poor, which would include south Tampa, Hyde Park, West Tampa, East Tampa, anywhere near Macdill AFB, as well as the entire line where Dale Mabry highway runs. to give you an example, during normal to heavy rain for 2 or more hours these areas flood to where you can't drive a car through it safely. So an event of this magnitude will for sure make anyone in these areas unsafe and unreachable. just thought i would make you aware of that.

As the surface temperatures of the Atlantic and Gulf continue to skyrocket and break records annually, this will just be the beginning of the insane amount of hurricanes heading their way. Godspeed to those who live in that region. Barely recovering from the previous only to be hit by another one.

Looks like more models according to this have bumped the track just north of Tampa in the latest run. That would be a nightmare scenario if it comes in at a cat 3 when it comes to storm surge because you'll have all the water being pushed northeast into the bay. Hopefully this won't be the case.
