Maya – The Time Editor

This is a tutorial about nonlinear animation using Maya's Time Editor. First, I use the Content Browser to load a character with Motion Capture data into the workspace: A man walks from left to right, clapping his hands twice towards the end.

What I try to achieve is a separation of the walking and the clapping animation. The Time Editor is ideal for this task. In the end we see the character perform the same walk as before, but he claps his hands much earlier during the walk and again much slower later.

This may sound simple, but it isn't, because one has to understand the workflow in order to get the proper data loaded into the Time Editor.

The Time Editor looks and behaves like a video editor with several tracks and was introduced in Maya 2017 and has been neglected by many. One of the reasons probably is the unpopularity of the Trax Editor – which did basically the same as the Time Editor now does.

The intro title is slightly wrong: It shows "September 2018" instead of 2017.

ı have a question.Lets say we open the time editor and copy a movement to repeat it on the scenario and after that we close the time editor to add new movements using the "s" again.İt says mute or add layers.so basically if i start using time editor for making things easy i have to work there for anything. How to change this situation i dont know.Sometimes i press something i guess and it works but i dont know what is it?when i mute the animation i lose the flow of the animation.i want to keep setting frames as usual do you know how?
