Flame is a confessional Lutheran within the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. He’s been a tremendous blessing, and certainly isn’t alone in walking the Wittenberg Trail. Christ For You in Word and Sacrament—to receive the gifts of the Divine Service—to be able to point to being baptized into Christ and looking to Him—it is a wonderful blessing.

I've been a Lutheran for years and I dont know what this idea of many types of Lutherans come from. There are confessional Lutherans and non confessions Lutherans, and the non confessional Lutherans tend to be just Lutherans in name only. The Lutheran confessions can be found in the Book of Concord. That's what Lutherans believe. Our views aren't hard to find and aren't mysterious. It's just that many American evangelicals think that Baptist doctrine is what almost all Christians believe when that's not true.

So James White is lumping Lutherans together primarily based on one individual Lutheran’s belief many years ago? Yet, he has problems when people like Leighton Flowers critique one particular Calvinist and lump all Calvinists together? Once again, James White exposes himself as a hypocrite. Lutherans hold to universal objective justification NOT universalism. If James White has no clue what the difference is, then he needs to remain silent about Lutheranism.

I remember looking up to James White several years ago, now I just think he is a grumpy old man that speaks out on every issue that rubs him the wrong way.

He speaks as though the Book of Concord doesn't exist by portraying Lutheranism in a confused manner as if it were an amorphous collection of theologies based on different readings of Luther, Melanchthon, and the American Lutheran scene.

By this same logic, he should throw his hands up in the air and despair of the many types Calvinism out there. Should we ally ourselves with the Calvinism of the Institutes? Or choose from the Dutch, Scottish, and English varieties with their various confessional documents? Or should we adopt neo-Calvinism? What about the Calvinism of the 'Young, Restless, and Reformed' movement?
