Fancy crown knot- 6 strands

In this video I demonstrate a special crown knot called a "Fancy crown knot". It is detailed in the book Des Pawson's Knot craft & rope mats.

This variation is rarely used, but it has potential on your crown knot projects (fenders, crown sinnets). Usually we use it to start or finish a project in a fancier way.

Thank you for this tutorial. I'm working with flat 1/8" leather strands which has a finished and raw side and it was critical for me to get the initial tie off just right. It took several reviews and a lot of pausing while I study each move to finally get it figured out. I don't know how you could have explained it any simpler, so your slow pace was very helpful for me to get it figured out.

Thank you for making this fancy crown knot tutorial available. However, I had thought that I would see how to start the knot (and finish it). I assumed that you would start with 6 lengths of cord, and show how to tie the knot, but you don't. The tutorial starts with the lengths already tied together. So your tutorial doesn't show how to tie it. Furthermore, the tutorial stops with six loose ends. So I assume you have six loose ends behind the knot, and six loose ends above the knot. I could work with six loose ends above the knot by turning them into a 6 strand round braid. That would still leave me with 6 loose ends. I should point out that this is my first ever attempt at braiding. So my comments may be naive.

This double fancy crown knot is in the middle of a multistrand star knot, do we start with the fancy crown knot or do we start with the star knot?

When you start about the 4th loop, your video gets VERY confusing. What number has number 6 go under, what number does 6 go over and what loop does 6 go through

I am just saying, , , If one strand goes into the knot it has to come out of the knot. So I see 3 strands
