How Does Surgeon SPIN Maintain Sterility Before Surgery?

Critical Role of Sterile Gowning for Operating Room Safety: Proper sterile gowning technique is one of the most crucial steps in preventing surgical infections. Every year, millions of surgical procedures are performed worldwide, and each one requires meticulous attention to sterile technique. The #surgicalgown isn't just a uniform – it's your patient's first line of defense against surgical site infections. When properly donned, it creates an essential microbial barrier between the surgical team and the sterile field. Key points every healthcare professional should know:
- Front of the gown (from chest to sterile field level) is considered sterile
- Sleeves are sterile from 2 inches above elbow to the cuff
- Remember: "If you can't see it, it's not sterile" (back of gown) #SurgicalSafety
- Always maintain sterility during the critical "turning" procedure
.
🎯 Pro Tips:
- Keep hands at shoulder level during gowning
- Never touch the outside of the gown with bare hands
- Wait for complete drying after scrubbing
- Double-gloving significantly reduces perforation risks
.

As a retired surgeon, I miss the spin! This was my getting geared up for for “the battle” of surgery 💪

I’ve had about 43 surgeries courtesy of an IED. I always wondered what was going on when I was out, and I guess the doc spinning in circles is part of that.

That is easy and well designed.👍🏻 Does it tie or have a self-adhesive tag?

So is there an infinite loop of assistants? Who helps the assistants?

The people that wear this for hours on end get my full respect. I was “scrubbed in” (it wasn’t a sterile field) for about an hour while my wife was giving birth and by the time it was over I was drenched in sweat

The entire gown is sterile not just the front however you don’t want to put sterile gloved hands behind your back and possibly touching unsterile scrubs under the gown. Also it is just easier to do that tag and spin

To this today, from "surgeons" who wouldn't even clean the blood from their knives so the patient could see how skilled they were a few hundred yrs ago! Thank God for progress

in my O.R. we dry with a sterile towel that come inside the drape gown package. (blue towels have lint) We also follow fingers to elbow drying techniques, not going back to re-dry area already dried.

Remember when the doctor who proposed wearing gloves during surgery and changing them between patients was outed and his medical license taken, dude is a legend 😂

I am sure that the professionals do it without the indecent speed of this video.

I was in nursing school and got to watch a surgery. The surgeon asked me "Do you know how to tie people up?" and I was like wtf dude. Didn't know this is what he wanted me to do and he had the actual nurse do it. Surgeons can be strange.
