OK, after 44 years of work as a licensed Landscape Architect and working for a federal agency that planned, designed and constructed 100's of millions of dollars in federal projects around multiple states, let me state unequivocally that the field of landscape architecture is one of the most personally and professionally fulfilling fields to enter and revel in. Creating landscapes for both young and old alike to experience nature and other people safely is a wonderfully exciting pursuit each day of your life. Listen intently to Carter and trust me as well, get into the landscape architecture field and express yourself in ways that others will enjoy. Good luck.

Thank you so much for making videos about Landscape Architecture! I'm interested in this career path, but there aren't that many resources available on YouTube. Your channel is very helpful and inspiring. Thank you for putting a lot of time and efforts into making these amazing videos. :)

Hey man well said! Nice and short video! A comment here to open some nice discussion. I am an architectural and engineering student with a 5-year cycle course. After all these years of studies in architecture, urban design and planning, I had only two courses about landscape architecture and I am like why? This field is so important for us, our cities, our societies and our planet. We need a balance between natural and artificial in our cities! Keep that in mind and spread it, I think it's a really important philosophy for every landscape architect and not only! It is important for every architect and designer. I care a lot about public spaces (outdoor and indoor) and for these reasons and more, I was like okay, I need to follow this path somehow I like it a lot even if it's not so constructive as architecture. Please, also upload a video about either following urban design or urban planning a lot of people would like to know the differences. Have you heard about the sponge-city concept? Take a look over it if you are not, it's a must! No floodings from climate crisis anymore, fingers crossed for the governments to invest in that as you said!

Thanks for this, man. I'm currently an Environmental Science major, but I'm looking more creative to satisfy my need to work with my hands. I'm definitely thinking of switching to Landscape Architecture.

Thanks for this video! Was an Environmental Studies major in undergrad and am considering an MLA. I have been looking for a career that combines climate resilience work, local efforts, ecological resotration, community building.... it sounds like I might be on the right track looking at this type of program.

I chose LA as my major for college, but over the past year Ive been increasingly interested in working with wildlife, and an even interning at a wildlife rescue center. However all my life I have always been interested in designing and know I want to use my creative side in my profession. After doing some research this was the best path to combine both of my passions. I also want to play a bigger part in wildlife conservation like helping with the environment and climate change, rather than working to help individual animals. I know there are different options like designing zoos and such, although I would like to more so be the voice for wildlife when designing landscapes. Like making sure designs include elements that consider the wildlife in the area. Would this be a possibility for me to focus on? I’m thinking of double majoring or minoring in something in wildlife to support my interests and to make me more appealing to firms that focus in those areas

Hello Carter,

I am in my late 20s and want to learn landscape architecture by myself at-home.

I plan on reading as many books on it as I can and learning all the required softwares. I didn't know where to begin, but thankfully your channel is helpful for beginners.

Is it possible for me to get a job without any degree in this field? Preferably remote job.
Any other advice is greatly appreciated. 🥺

I'm currently battling between Landscape design and Urban planning for my masters degree. Can you please do a comparision between both majors? Thank you!

Nice video ! I wonder what's the difference between all of these terms below : (since to me they all have the same meaning) :

landscape architecture, landscape design and landscape planning, sustainable architecture design and planning, environmental planning and design and planning, and finally spatial architecture and design and planning 😥 It would be much appreciated if u can make a video about this matter

How much do you guys actually learn about plants in this field? I love plants and am looking for a way to combine my love of design with my love of plants. I want to use plants for conservation. Is this a good fit for me ?

Hi Carter! I will be graduating from UF next year with a degree in Plant Science (horticultural emphasis) and a minor in Soil and Water Science. I am considering pursuing an MLA after I graduate. I was wondering if you think the knowledge and skills from my degree program would transfer well into a landscape architecture program? How important is soil status and plant selection in the landscape architecture industry?

Can I be a landscape architect even if I haven´t made any models in my life nor had many art classes in high school? I draw my surroundings a lot in my free time, I enjoy biology and would love to work a job that involves visual learning and creating things. And helping society as my job would be fulfilling to me.

I’m in my early forties and just heard about this field. Any tips or things I should know before getting into this field. I want to get involved with the community, interested in sustainability and love creating gardens which is what I’m doing now after leaving the healthcare field. Thank you for this video.

Environmental and community betterment is very appealing to me but burnout is a worry.
Would restoration projects provide a work/life balance do you think?
