In this video you will learn 5 things to consider before studying Landscape Architecture. Of course everyone's experience is slightly different but overall from my own experience and talking with others these are the 5 most common things as a Landscape Architecture Major. Overall I still loved my undergraduate experience as a Land Arch major and don't regret my decision at all! I hope this video helps anyone who is considering the Landscape Architecture field or who is looking to learn more about it!

For each of you commenting below, and wondering whether LA is a good career choice, my advice is to watch more of Carter's videos on the field and look specifically at websites from the ASLA (National Society of LA's) and the various projects that LA's get involved in. I started out in engineering and switched over to LA and never looked back. Followed that LA path within a Federal agency for 5 years and then back to school in Urban and Environmental Planning (the two fields match very well) and then back to Federal service. I think the main reason I pursued this field is that you get to help people, communities, states and large parts of the nation (i.e. river basins) to live in a sustainable fashion on the landscape without destroying the natural aspects of the environment like to draw :)

I'm a current environmental engineering student, but I realized I am also super inspired by the creative placemaking and social impact aspects of urban design and landscape architecture! I'm currently struggling to decide if I should complete my STEM degree, switch into something more urban planning related, or switch into design. I don't consider myself much of an artist and I'm generally more suited for STEM and business, but I just find these fields so inspiring. Any advice for the best bachelors and masters program combination for me?

I'm 16 and have been searching for a major and career that would combine designing public spaces, art and that pays well. The only thing that scares me is the amount of work and organization to have to "thrive" in this field. How can you balance personal/social life and school work

Thank you for making these videos! As you said many people don't know about this field until they are in college...that was me. It is hard to find people sharing their thoughts/tips for this field. I have a BS in Urban Planning and am considering going for a Masters in Landscape Architecture. However, I'm also someone who really values work/life balance and prioritizes family. I know you mention the rigor of design school (I'm curious what school you went to?), but I'm wondering if the field itself allows for a good work/life balance. I've seen mixed opinions on this, so curious what you think?

Hi, I'm an Architecture Student and took me 4 years to realize my path was for Landscape design. There's much heavier load in Architecture than Landscape Arch. in college But I guess Landscape would be so much fun!

Thank you Carter x I'm in an (unaccredited) BA Urban Planning right now and I'm planning to enroll in an MLA and Master of City and Regional Planning Dual Degree next Fall. I am nervous to start off committed to both degrees, but I feel passionate about both fields. Do you have any insight into LA vs UP? Or have you worked with any Urban Planners so far? The LA dept at my intended school recommends doing LA over a dual degree but I'm worried that's a bias + I don't feel prepared as a planner (as my current program is new and not accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board).

I’ve heard most programs have a matriculation process. Are there any that you don’t need to matriculate into?

Hey! I am pursuing Btech in Civil, and I really don't have any idea what to do after Graduation. I m pretty interested in Crafts and Creativity and also wanted to become an Environmentalist. So, I guess LA is a related course for it.

Please show me the guidance on what are the steps for this Course after Btech in Civil in India

I'm interested in working a full time job landscaping with a local company while studying landscape architecture online. Would that be possible? Or do I have to work part time and full time studying?
