Some tips regarding setting up a Zigbee network (also in an upcoming video about Zigbee devices):

- Use a USB extension cable with the Sonoff Dongle, especially if you use an SSD. Interference from the Pi can considerably reduce your range.

- If you have any Zigbee light bulbs (e.g. Philips Hue) or mains switches, pair these first in the rooms they're intended for. As these aren't battery-powered, they're generally routing devices. This helps to strengthen your network.

- Pair the sensors in their final location. These will then pair with the nearest Zigbee router, such as a light bulb, already on the network.

- Keep an eye on battery levels of your sensors. This is normally one of the statistics reported by the sensor. Maybe set up an automation to alert you (BeardedTinker has a recent video on how to do this), or create a separate dashboard with battery levels. Keep a note of what type of battery they use and hold a small stock of them.

I love your tutorials! Its fast, to the point, and i can pause when i need to - i don't need to listen to unnecessary fillins. Thanks again!

Your Tutorial made it very easy for me (no English mother tongue) to follow successfully. You have a special talent to pause at critical points when some action is required by the student to follow step by step. Thank you very much indeed.

Best tutorial ever! I wish I had come across your video first. I wasted many hours watching and reading other tutorials. They all skipped the crucial step of ignoring the default HA Zigbee integration. I can't thank you enough.

TIP: If you have the "E" version dongle, don't forget to put "adapter: ezsp" in serial section in the Z2M configuration file. "P" version dongle doesn't require this.

Excellent, pleasantly concise instructions, thank you! I still spent several hours with the setup because no devices were recognised. Finally it worked after I moved the Sonoff stick out of the vicinity of the wifi router using a USB extension cable - the solution can be so simple! 🙂

hi there, I have been playing with homeassistant and have built some ESP32 nodes to monitor temperature and control things like pumps.
ive got the ESP 32 node reading the temp and humidity and also i configured four outputs to drive relays for running pumps and vents.., the one thing i found after purchasing a Zigbee Dongle was getting the zigbee2mqtt to work, what a nightmare.

after watching countless videos i came across your channel, i went through it first just watching the procedure a few times . after many frustrating times with other video where i got nowhere.

Then today i sat with your instructions and followed to the letter, i must say your instructions are first class, i got it working !!.
it was like jumping through fired HOOPS with all the other videos out there .
I would like to buy you a drink for an excellent tutorial .

I'm trying to get to grips with Node red . I have two large polly tunnels and want to look after the temperatures and water the plants since i'm growing quite a lot of HOT chillies . I can build the hardware using ESp32 8266 etc and have them controlling things, ive extended my WiFi to cover the whole Garden and its very big, to make sure i can control the devices im going to build, ive worked out how to control vents on my polytunnes using a ESP32. so it just getting to grips with Nodered in home assistant for automation.
Im a pretty technical person and can work out most thing but this got me spitting feathers....

Iv'e installed file editor, Grafana, Hacs, Influxdb, NodeRed, Studio code server, terminal ssh, zigbee2mqtt

now ill put my first Ziggbee sensor on the fridge door since the wife plays hell with me leaving it open.

in some NODE red instructions there is the need to read temperature and humidity, im using the DHT22, but when i try to add the device to the dashboard
i complains with a Fail. seems it need some libraries, so this is my next thing to fix, i want to use NodeRed to read these devices and do an automation on running fans water pumps etc. so if you know a fix for this a video in that area would be super.
i'm retired and just plying with technology, im quite good at building stuff and an active radio ham. I can bounce signal off the moon but that Zigbee set up had me spiting feathers....

I have joined you £5 Patreon ...
once again your the Man ...

Thank you for this video! I have HA, but I am not a computer wiz, and I really need things explaining and showing to me like I'm a toddler. I find a lot of the HA documentation, Github documentation and the HA forums way too complicated (and often quite hostile towards newbies with newbie questions!).

I'm wanting to install Zigbee and Zigbee2MQTT, so I'm doing a lot of reading and prep work for it, just so I know what to face when I finally dare to take the leap. This video helps calm my nerves, and I'll have it guide me through it step by step when I get to that point! So far, it looks pretty straightforward (famous last words...).

Hi, thanks so much for your video! I had a bit of a nightmare after following other videos which were outdated. I followed yours but the dongle was already configured by HASS so I removed it, restarted HASS, ignored it and now Zigbee2MQTT works! Subscribing to your channel, many thanks again!

somewhat helpful but a few things are still confusing. At 3:32 the part about the server. You state to make it the Home Assistant IP address. But what about the port after the iP. should that match the home assistant as well? or use the one shown. Then the next step about tying in terminal. I don't have terminal on my Home assistant? that seems like a whole other video on how to add that option. Sorry new to this and a bit lost

Really brilliant tutorial for dummies thank you. Spent an age trying to work out how to do this. In the meantime my home set up had an "event" that sent all my devices offline and left a recurring error in the log to the effect that I was using an insecure default Zigbee2 MQTT network key. Couldnt find any intel on the forums. Anyway I need to scratch the Z2M itch and this is perfect. Just like your Sonoff flashing tutorial. I wasted a day on it before stumbling across your excellent videos. Kudos! will coffee you later. Just thought I had to thank you first on here. One thing though. Why isn't there a place where the network key can be configured not to use the default? Oops! May have posted this in the wrong vid.

I wish I had seen this video before my first tinkering with HA. How do I disable or unpair the dongle from ZHA so I can pair with zigbee2mqtt ?

Great video, thanks! One question. Only Sonoff devices are working with sonoff usb stick? I have tuya roller shutter module..will it be also handled or any additional work is required to make it compatible?

I had setup my sonoff in HA using the standard way in home assistant before seeing this video. Can you tell me the advantages of switching to 2MQTT? Thank you

its much preffered if you juse use the as the device can changed with different name after a reboot or after getting a USB reset error or by a simple unplug and plugging it back again.
