The Fundamental Flaws of the Sonic Rush Series

As the title suggests, this time we will be tackling Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, and the DS version of Sonic Colors. With a brief mention of the Classics Collection. Originally I was going to include Chronicles and just make this about Sonic on the DS as a whole, hence the classics collection bit, but I decided to save it for the next video.

The one thing everybody can agree on is that Hideki Naganuma knocked it out of the park with the music

One thing that most people don't know about Blaze - she actually gets less out of her boost gauge because she moves slower than Sonic, but makes up for it with the aerial mobility as you mentioned (which makes for some pretty nice skips when you're doing a time attack).

Okay, but hear me out:

Blaze is really cool.

Yeah, agreed 2d sprites would have looked nicer, I loved Advance's smooth animation.
I suppose they used 3d models so they could have fancy camera angles for the cutscenes or have Blaze and Sonic move into the foreground in the levels without the hassle of drawing new sprites for that.

!?
I never realized Cream's cheering on Blaze when she beats up Sonic.
Damn, missed joke oppurtunity.
Geez, maybe I need to ask you to check my scripts for more gags in the future.
Thanks for the shoutout.

Rush Adventure might be my favorite handheld Sonic game and is just below my top 5 favorite games in the series...at least when I revisit the game to just play a few stages instead of progressing the story. This was my go-to during high school, often playing a few stages after lunch waiting for my next class to start. Some of my favorite Zones are in this game with Sky Babylon, Ghost Ship, and Coral Cave. Always loved being able to play as Blaze in this though it's kind of puzzling that they didn't add Tails or Marine as playable characters, especially the latter (as much as I dislike her) since the story is centered on her.

I enjoyed the variety with the different vehicle minigames (aside from the ship) and I enjoy most of the bosses even if some of them were a bit drawn out though not nearly as much as the bosses in the original Rush. It's even kind of fun clearing out missions to get little decorations for your island, it's a nice little touch. It's got significant problems, the campaign's pacing can be pretty bad, the mandatory grinding sucks and Marine is an obnoxious character but after getting through the actual story content, I'll still find myself coming back to this game to replay a few stages and clear out a mission or two every once in a while.

I like how different the CD version of “Wrapped In Black” is than the version you actually hear when you fight the Eggmen.

dont you hate it when someone says that a boost sonic game plays itself
then proceeds to miss every single shortcut and time saver in the stage?

I didn't have any trouble for any bosses I didn't even know there was a easy mode that's how simple the game is

Do Sonic fans just play through an entire game in one go? Beyond Johnny and the hovercraft, I never had any problems with Sonic Rush Adventure. I like it's fresh approach to level progression in the series most of all. I've completed this game three times over the 11 years I've owned it. It is the only DS game from my childhood that is in perfect condition. It was my first and only Sonic game for three whole years. Any other experiences I had with the series were through online animations, cartoons, flash games, and watching the cutscenes for the games I didn't own.

I respect your criticisms even if I heavily disagree with almost every one of them.

The Rush trilogy is still some of my favorite games in the series, and I still love the stories in them, despite how simple and laidback they are.

Also hot take: I like the bosses in the Rush games. I understand getting impatient with them, but the attack patterns still feel unique enough compared to many other Sonic bosses that I still had fun dodging them, even if they’re long. I also prefer the idea of the bosses not being cheese-able, “abuse the mercy invincibility until you kill them” bosses, for once.

Same opinion for most of the Advance 2 bosses lol

Could the whole 2 dimension collapsing thing be because the DUAL Screens of the DS collapsed on two each other when u close it? Cause that would be pretty neat!

Technically it was Sonic Heroes that introduced the "Boost gameplay" with the special stages, Rush is more the first official game where that was the main focus of gameplay.
