I worry that the Democratic Leadership is gonna see that political swing map and think “well most of the country swung right this election, we better move more right in our positions to win again”. The party needs left wing populism, not trying to appeal to Moderate Republicans. That’s part of the reason why we lost this election.

I really enjoy Hank's content, i think he's looking at this from the standpoint of a science communicator which i think is why he was really emphasizing the importance of alignment between what the chart shows and what people think it shows

6:55 “Tf does Hank Green know about politics?”

Hank and John Green have both been tangentially involved with politics through their entire adult lives. Between interviewing Obama, advocating for lgbtq rights, the lifetime of Crash Course and SciShow directly opposing sensationalist conspiracy theories re: both historical and current events, or actively identifying as feminists, they’re almost as steeped in political wonk as anybody in this sphere.

Edit: Because some folks can’t seem to bother to click the time stamp I so kindly provided, Vaush isn’t the one saying this about Hank. A random chatter did, he just read and responded to it.

One thing holding back mass enthusiasm on the left is that the right yells louder.

We've become so timid sharing our political views because we don't know if the person we're talking to is going to scream about immigrants and trans people for the next hour.

They've taken all the space and left none for the rest of us

In response to one chatter calling hank part of the capital class- over half of his companies are either nonprofits or largely donate to charity. The difference between the bourgeoisie and the green brothers is they are dedicated to contributing as much money towards good causes and programs as possible

What bothers me, is people voted for Trump despite him acting disgusting at almost all times. I'm not going to blame Dems for that. Yes, I don't like how slow and ineffective Dems work, but that was no excuse to vote for someone who acted how Trump has. If you want to look for something to blame, blame the people who voted for him. Trump has been so hateful, I won't even blame the economy.

I don’t really feel like Vaush contradicts anything Hank Green is saying here, who is only trying to remind people that are misunderstanding the map (and there definitely are many) that it doesn’t mean what they think it means. So saying he is “almost right” seems pretty weird.

I am the wealthy college educated white neolib that the campaign was meant to pull in and even I was sounding the alarm a month ago that the campaign was hyper focused on me. It was quite clear that this election needed to be about class conflict but Democrats sprinted away from the easy framing/contrast offered to them by Trumpism.

Why is everybody suddenly forgetting that it is not unusual for this type of outcome to occur when the economy sucks and the president’s approval ratings are in the shitter? Fast forward two years and you will probably see a blue swing in the house. What IS unusual is the willful disregard of Trump’s track record. The red shift is not unusual, but the election of Trump is.

I love the Green Brothers. I’m not unbiased. Hank survived lymphoma, during Covid. He’s a superhuman. lol

This is such a frustrating situation tbh. I'm mad at the establishment dems for failing to pick up on populism, at many of my leftist friends for not voting, at conservatives for voting like morons, and at right wing pundits for selling these damn lies. Now my rights are in danger and the people I love are more likely to get hurt too.

I just hope we have enough of a country left in 4 years for these lessons to matter

What an absolutely trash take about not flaunting support for the left candidate enough. My mom nearly got run off the road twice by Trump supporters due to her Bernie and medicare for all bumper stickers. It got to the point where she had to take them off her car. The opposition are monsters.

This election showed 2 key things...firstly Millions of Democrats were absent in this election despite the stakes at hand. Secondly, despite 2020 and the past few mid term elections, the Republican party has shown to not lose any substantial amounts of its base...instead its grown since 2020. Despite everything we know of what trumps administration had done. Which means that no matter what the republican presidential candidate is...they will all vote for them...despite their record, rhetoric or character. We were all wrong when we thought the Republican party was on its last leg...we all thought that they would never recover from the trump stain. We got complacent thinking that no one in their right mind would vote for Trump again with his rhetoric and campaign being in disarray. Complacency likely led to people sitting this election out. Hell..it took a whole pandemic for people to get out and vote in 2020.

What the Democrat party needs to take from this is, you cannot appeal to republicans, they will vote for whoever has the R next to their name...they do not care. Democrats need to change and go to the left..centrism and neo liberalism has led to Trump. Running on promises to have a republican in the Democrat administration or on their endorsements more than likely drove people to trump and for leftists to stay home.

Sadly...what will more than likely happen is Democrat party will take this and go further to the right as they have been for decades.

“ Policy not meaning as much as the appearance as policy “ is why the Democrat party lost

Ok fine the number of dems who no showed is still stunning.
More folks saw him as a threat in 2020.
And his simple presence in 24 supported his assertion that he had done nothing wrong etc.
The trust level of enough voters was destroyed by the diatribe. They will believe the last loudest voice...
