I am 51 years old and I agree with you 100%! I have seen this happen in the real life of friends and acquaintances. Basically my experience is that these mothers aren’t getting the kind of attention or caring from their own husbands so they use their son to fill a little bit of that hole. I’ve had women use their sons to comfort them when they feel wronged by their husband and these sons stick up for their mom and then it is kind of like two against one in the family situation. It surprises me that these female parents don’t notice this about themselves. When I was suffering badly with depression many years ago, I had to make sure I didn’t use my children like some type of counselor. This was my burden to carry not theirs. In my experience with people in general they don’t judge their actions, if it feels good they do it. Children shouldn’t have the weight of a bad marriage or an absent husband to carry on their shoulders.
