Bravo. I’m a living donor for a friend that needs a kidney and I’m considering myself an altruistic donor. I’m also an organ donor on my license. I hope to be able to pay it forward with my donation and raise awareness if I’m considered a match and start a chain. You either get it or you don’t. Thank you.

God bless you, Mayor. So glad to find your video. Had just watched a few minutes of videos directing people NOT to donate for fear the hospital won’t try to save you!! I’m a liver transplant recipient of 23 years, hugging my grandbabies and growing old with my husband. ❤❤

I just donated a kidney to friend last week! If I could do it again I would.

Lol I'm a donor simply because I don't care what happens to my body when I'm dead. Might as well be useful for something. Plus: no casket/cremation expenses.

I used to live in Middletown, CT when Dan was mayor. From what I understood he was a caring compassionate guy, so when I saw him pop up under my search for "why should I donate an organ" on YouTube, naturally I clicked on it to hear his thoughts.

I recently moved to Allston, MA, and was updating my license information to transfer, and the organ donation question popped up. Typically, I just say yes, but this time I weighed the decision more heavily. With the recent passing of my older brother (not due to the lack of an organ) 2 years ago I took this decision more seriously.

Successfully, I'm able to see Dan's altruistic and honorable choice and will check mark Yes yet again on the driver's license application.

Thanks, Dan.

" I WILL NEVER FORGET WHAT WAS DONE!"
" My Grandson was 13 years old!"

Most people would be keen to receive in their hour of need. But hesitate to donate even if it's just blood.

I just got the gift of being able to donate my left kidney to a stranger 3 days ago at UCLA. Thank you for making this talk because my experience was like yours ~ Wonderful, thorough, painful but totally doable and not the scary process that some have made it out to be.

Im making sure that my kids and wife and i never become organ donor's as my father was a organ donor they said that he's brain dead makes me think that they didn't even try to save his life or didn't try hard enough to save him he died when I was 17 after that no way will i ever let my family be organ donors to protect our health and safety

Wow, I had no idea you could donate when you're not like in an accident and at risk of dying. Thanks for the info.

I am considering cancelling my donor status because I just learned that rich people have a much higher chance of getting my organs. I don't want to help rich people in that way

call me a pessimist or a cynic, but...
1. all these people probably earn more than an average american
2. they are or appear to be mostly or all white, why is this important? because they TEND to have more money than the average joe, not to say ALL of them do but, yeahhh
3. they probably have an insanely expensive health insurance that, again most people dont have
and lastly...
4. The cost of:
-medical bills
- hospital stays
- medication that may be given
- lab work
- even transpotation

not one mention of those, and again out of reach of the majority of people...
and need i remind everyone of literal TIME that poor people CANNOT AFFORD to take off to do any of these because you would have to choose between going to WORK and going to the hospital because you can BARELY get your rent and utilities paid.

I'm sure there'd be much more donations if people were getting paid to give their organs.

In conclusion I understand the need for donors and im glad everyone mentioned is ok, but for a poor person, these procedures are very much out of reach when considering their circumstances.

so many reasons I am not an organ donor. I encourage everyone to do a little research on how flimsy and unreliable a diagnosis of brain death is and how financially beneficial organ donation is to doctors and the medical establishment.
