So you've heard about Global Climate Change, and how it's causing our sea level to rise, but do you know the real reasons why? Find out how the properties of water make it susceptible to changes in temperature, and how this can change the globe.

Yup! There are sources you can check out in the description. So many objects experience thermal expansion properties, including something solid like concrete, which is why they often build expansion joints on bridges (Because they expand in the summer). It has been scientifically proven that this is one of the contributing factors to why the sea level is rising.

I love how you give sources too, thats always an important thing cause I like to read about the topics too

Very good video. It's short and clear ^^
And the drawings are nice too :)

I love this channel! Explaining science clearly and concisely. It's brilliant!

Water's actually really weird, because most things shrink when they freeze, not expand. Ice's crystalline structure just ends up taking up more space per molecule than when it's liquid water. But on the whole, things typically expand when you increase their temperature, and shrink when you decrease it.

Everything gets slightly bigger when the relative heat rises. That's why you put a glass jar with a metal top under warm water to open it easier. It's not because it's boiling, but just because it has more heat energy and thus the molecules are more likely to "jiggle" farther away from other molecules.

How does a pacemaker work?
I know I can watch it on the internet but I love the way you tell. So don't disappoint me.

Thank you so much..I actually had a presentation on thermal expansion tomorrow and this video was so helpful 😁

although i didnt get my question answered 100%, you did help. thank you for that. i saw a mr. wizard episode a while ago, where he fills a cup with ice, and then fills it with water to the absolute very very tip top, then lets the ice melt. well, the water level stayed the same, and this confused me, because i couldnt understand why people kept saying the sea level would rise if the ice caps melted. i feel like im missing something, but this added a piece to my puzzle.

Sweet i just found your channel today from right this minute. I have been watching them. On a previous video i asked about global warming. Lol you already had this one. Cool.

extremely informative. all the things i've read on this, or listened too, and i never heard this aspect of the problem spoken too. maybe i just haven't been reading the right source. whatever the case thank you for this important info.

I have a BFA in dance. Nothing even close to the intellect of physics. Never was able to understand all of this because is am so ADHD...this channel is able to teach me some much more on such a simplistic level that it makes me feel so smart! Thank you! Burning question: as a professional dancer, trained in ballet, jazz, modern, tap, etc...can you make a video that has something to do with momentum and/or centrifugal/centripetal force for spins?( AKA pirouettes in the dance world) thanks!!

I should be revising for my science exam but instead im watching these videos, and im learning more.

For those saying that ice melting would be the opposite effect, if the ice is present on land (on mountains or w/e) it'll melt and raise the sea level, same for with the ice in the sea. If the ice is only partially submerged, only the submerged part will count as "added volume". The part above the water has no influence on the overall volume of the ocean. However when this ice melts, it may have like 10% Less density, but the amount of ice (now water) which influences it is a lot more.

Does water melt or thermal expansion have a greater effect on rising sea levels?
