What if Q, the most powerful being in Star Trek, actually intervened in one of the darkest conflicts in Federation history?

The Dominion War pushed Starfleet to its absolute limits, forcing them to abandon their ideals, forge uneasy alliances, and fight for survival. But Q, despite his near-omnipotence, never lifted a finger. Was this deliberate? Did Q want the war to happen? Or was he bound by some cosmic rule we don’t fully understand?

In this video, we explore what could have happened if Q had chosen a side in the Dominion War. Would he have stopped the war in an instant, or would he have thrown the entire quadrant into chaos for his own amusement? Could he have tipped the scales for the Federation, or would he have sided with the Dominion just to test humanity? And most importantly—was the war itself part of a larger test that Q was silently observing?

This video builds upon past explorations of Q’s nature, his history, and his influence in Star Trek, including:

If you are doing what if stories, then: "WHAT IF GARAK HAD SHOT DUKAT WHEN HE HAD THE CHANCE?" (so if Garak had done what he tells us that he regrets not doing later on!)

"What if an all powerful being stepped in"
But Captain Sisko did step in.
EDIT: Damnit, I hate it when you anticipate my jokes.

Q stepping in would have been like using an atomic bomb against a medieval period civilization. Also, the only way I see him stepping in is if the Dominion started gunning for Jean-Luc.

The intervention of the wormhole aliens was already a Q level event. They made a whole Dominion fleet disappear.

How do you know he didn't interfere in the Dominion war?

Q " When you do things right, People won't be sure you've done anything at all "

It wouldn't even require the Q. If, for whatever reason (resources, strategic position, real estate speculation), the Dominion decided they wanted Rana IV, and that stirred up some bad memories for old Kevin Uxbridge. In an instant, Jem'Hadar would vanish down to the last strand of DNA, and probably the Vorta along with them. Every Dominion ship instantly just gone. The Changelings themselves might escape his notice, but their power-base would be lost, all because they wouldn't listen to the grumpy old man when he said "Get off my lawn!"

They did. Without Q the Federation woud have lost. Show you how.

1.Q didn't sling the Enterprise in the way of the first borg cube.

2. The borg woud never know about the federation in the next years.

3. No Wolf 359 and massive ship loss

4. No initiative to modernise and upgrade the fleet and no defiant-like warships.

5. By the time of the dominion attack the backbone of the federation woud be Miranda, Excelsior and a few Galaxy and nebula class ships.
No Defiant, Sovereign, Norway, Akira, Saber, Steamrunner class

5. After the destruction of the odysse the woud mayby start but it woud take a few years.

6. By the time of the Dominion war ⅓ of the fleet was modernised with New ships who were designt for combat. Without them the federation woud have lost the war.

Q didn't send Voyager home, he may have temped it a few times, but since Voyager had *necessary or interesting challenges that needed to be overcome in the Delta Quadrant, he likely just sat back and watched waiting for perfect little moments to nudge things in the *fun direction.

In the scene where Q is arriving to just humanity - farpoint mission - first episode, data uses a contraction: at least WE’RE acquainted with the judge, captain.

I think its good to point out Q also said "Never provoke the Borg." still gives me the feeling that they needed the Federation to beat them as the Q might have been compromised in some way.

You'd think someone like Amanda Rogers would have wanted to intervene, as obviously Earth and the Federation were home to her.

My sense of Q is he has always been a begrudgingly positive advocate for humanity; he's like the rich dad who created his own empire, making his kids start at the bottom of the company, hoping they can work themselves upwards. He has his favorite players (Picard, Janeway) to use, while he stays away from others (Worf, Sisko) because of their resistance. I always found it funny Q allowed Sisko to knock him down: was it because Sisko was a demi-god and it was a favor to the Prophets? We'll never know... Anyway, Q's use of tough love has always been something those immediately involved in find at best confusing, if not madness itself. Besides, how don't we know that he didn't already interfere in the Dominion War and wasn't happy with the results? A snap of the fingers and everything resets...again.

Who needs the Q when you have the Prophets? They are aloof, really detached, and care enough about Bajor to intervene whenever they seem reason. Such as sending orbs, sending that one guy three hundred years for the sake of the Sisko and that one time they made 2800 Dominions vessels vanish.

I always wondered what Q thought of the Bajoran "gods"/wormhole aliens, compared to himself. He was awfully quiet about them when he visited DS9...

Well…… they are “omnipotent beings with unlimited power over space, matter, and time.” In theory they could blink the Dominion from existence.

Q aren't bothered about small wars, they prefer more quantum events like in "All Good Things"

Sisko got rid of Q, that's why he started harassing stranded Voyager's crew!

There was one episode where Klingons (aka Worf and along with Chief O'Brien, Julian the doctor and Quark) were trying to destroy Monac shipyard via massive solar ejection flare- at first it didnt work - and it seemed like it wasnt going to work on second aproach either - but then suddenly it just did - that felt like Q snapping his fingers saying "fine i will do it myself you incompetent apes". and then the solar ejection occured and wrecked the shipyard exactly how it was supposed to- That moment always felt like the Q moment to me.

Q is more interesting when he's testing individual humans like Picard. I'm glad they never used him as a Deus Ex Machina to take on the Borg or the Dominion.

I'd figure the Organians would put all parties in time out.
