The resemblance between Kosëm Sultan and Safiyë Sultan at this point in the series is scary. The writers really payed attention to detail and had Kosem dressed similar to Safiye in elegant gowns as well as extravagant crowns and headpieces. I first began noticing this when Geverhan told Kosem ‘no wind can blow nor sun rise without your permission’ and this is exaclty the same as what Fahriye said to Safiye Sultan.

I have great respect for Metin Akdulger as an actor here. I never heard of any of these actors/actresses as I'm American, but he brought Sultan Murad 4 to life, and I can certainly feel his pain in this episode with his cirrhosis of the liver. Too bad Turkey doesn't have Oscars for excellent actors.

Am I the only one who see the deep sadness in Murad? OMG.. how much he wanted to be loved by Kosem. SUPERB!!! Metin played the best role here. He created the real Sultan

Start of this episode shows Actor Metin's facial expressions of extreme sadness, pain and emptiness and strong motions.
I was in almost tears. Murad fighting with his inner self and others. While Kosem 's obsession becoming autocratic, dictator.

I actually feel kind of sorry for Murad :( He didn't want to be this cruel but there was no choice left for him. He grew up seeing his brothers die and didn't wanna end up like them that's why he become so strict. And the fact that his mother didn't believe in him to be an independent Sultan, made him insecure and even more strict.

Poor Halil Pasha. He served the dynasty since the days of Sultan Ahmed. He didn't deserve the ending he got. He should have retired in comfort and peace.

Finally Murad admitted in the end why he did what he did. Because he loved his mother, god call it love. If only he made this conversation years ago, everything would be fine for everyone.

"Accession is his disaster". No truer words were spoken than these about Ibrahim. He was a disaster as Sultan, and was assassinated by Kosem. Sad.

It is a fine series and the interplay between son Murad and mother Kosem is movingly done, convincing. Wonderful actors and script writer with persuasive understanding of a destructive psyche, obsessive love and pain. A lot of Turkish series l have watched are world class and worth better translation...this one with its history references especially ..

Sultan Murat had an imbedded doubt and hatred with his mom Sultana Kosem, since he was young …. He died a lonely sultan…..

Sultan Murad is so hateful towards Kosem. Could she have backed off a little and let him lead? yes. But wanting to end the dynasty just to spite her was beyond crazy!

Kosem never saw any fault with what she did. She even hired a companion when he was a child to keep Murad away from state affairs, then threw the companion to be torn apart by the people during the rebellion. That had to be devastating. 😔
She had a selfishness & thirst for control and power that she did not want to share; it ran deep. She would get old eventually and yet she held the reins tight so her sons were doomed to fail, they would not have loyalty from their subjects, nor know how to rule because she developed a state within a state and constantly challenged the Sultan's decisions and set an example of disrespect. She would never concede any power.
Murad was cruel, but his heart was broken many times as those close to him died. His children were not valued by his mother. Hanging the mother of his children and closest companion/right hand was beyond cruel, and his children suffered as well.
He inherited an unstable state in the throes of a rebellion and corruptiness, and the treasury was broke when he ascended to the throne. He should be admired for his conquests, stabilizing the country, and filling the empty treasury. He did this with his mother undoing every step he took.
Even in his council meetings, she sat observing & circumventing every decision he made, until he finally forced her out. He discovered none of his rulings were carried out per his mother's orders and she publicly disagreed with him. Fear was his only weapon for obedience. He couldn't rule with her around. She refused to leave the harem or castle even when ordered.
Pity, he had the makings to be a great Sultan if allowed to slowly spread his wings, with his mother being a voice of guiding experience demanding all respect for her son as Sultan. Important job for a mother to raise an independent son until he can spread his wings and fly on his own. It is always a heartbreak when a son leaves the nest, but it means a mother did a good job raising him. This is even more important as a leader for a country. Pity ...😩
Sad for the dynasty.

Notice the significance of him sitting on that chair with the sun shining on him until his mom moves forward and her shadow lands on him?

The actor that played Murad did this so gracefully, as dying he was saying his mother was never proud of him, not only his mother he even made every viewer proud of him. He had every quality to be a Sultan yes he became cruel but it was to protect himself at this point i agreed with him kosem wasnt that kosem everyone saw when murad was ascended, actually she was a cruel kosem the greed for power made her like that she became exactly like Safiye Sultan she made my jaw dropped when she said “if something happens to ibrahim, he(ibrahim’s son) will be our only hope” when his concubine told her she’s pregnant. Like how she changed side so quickly upon knowing she can have another prince to carry on how ever she wants to rule the state. Yes she was doing everything for the betterment of thw state but she had her first priority that was the state and not her children..
At last it was actually so painful to see murad dying like that in pain not only physical but emotional and mental pain he was in He actually loved his mother more than anyone yazak this dynasty lost a great padishah and now the dynasty will be carried on from the non mentally stable prince ibrahim..
