Turhan Sultan ruled the state herself for years after this incident. After years, Turhan left the throne to her son willingly and resigned from surrogating the throne. By doing this, she finished the Sultanate of Women and left the state to viziers and the king, then had a peaceful, regular life in Edirne. After her, no women participated in ruling the state.

Hurrem (Roxelana), a Ruthenian Sultana started the Sultanate of Women, and Turhan (Nadia), a Ruthenian Sultana finished it. Such a nice coincidence.

Atike herself is zalim... She too is an example of how far one can go for her selfish reasons, for whatever they love... She loved silahtar... To get him she plotted and came between silahtar and her sister which led to the death of geverhan... Even after her death she had heart to accept silahtar... Why blaming her mother? If her mother loves power she can go far for it too...

If Atike support her mother, nothing like this would happened, like Mihrimah supported her

I finished the series a week ago, and I miss watching it now. Haha going to have to rewatch it.
I loved it! It was some getting used to in the beginning, magnificent century suleiman/hurrem seemed to have a brighter colour palette with different soundtracks and ways of filming. Once I got used to the new style in magnifecent century Kosem, I really liked it. Soundtracks are great and I might even like them more than the ones in mc hurrem/suleiman.

What a story this has been, so interesting to see Kosem change. Yes power really intoxicated her. I love the scene between her and Anastasia in this episode, it shows the difference between her younger and older self so well. Another one of my favourite scenes is as sad as it is, Kosem finding dead mehmed. The scene is just so well done! And then the scene where Kosem reveals how she truly thinks about Murad, him not having the right qualities for a sultan, that really showed a darker side of her! I enjoyed her as Anastasia so much as well, that sweet beautiful and innocent girl!
All the speeches Kosem did, fantastic!!
Now I still really want a magnificent century Safiye.
Does anyone know if the producers are making a new series? Couldn't find anything online.

Kosem was not evil. She was in a role no woman was before her in the Ottoman Empire. Kosem crossed more boundaries than Hurrem. Hurrem was concerned with the institution of the harem and its rules while Kosem was rule-breaker in matters concerning the political sphere. She appeared on the political stage when the decline in the dynasty was quite advanced.

Kosem has become a 'metaphorical scapegoat ' getting the blame for executing her children - at this time in history blaming women in power for everything was common and in general many things were blamed on anyone but the sovereign.

Looking closer, Kosem was a survivor and her continuing to have a political career following the demise of her sons is something abnormal since there is a connection between power and having a son in that system, it was motherhood that allowed her dynastic power.

Kosem was the only one willing to compromise, share and try to work out to minimise damage or harm to anyone. Yet, Ibrahim’s execution was the breaking point for Kosem as it affected her mental state. We even saw a change in her persona following Murad's death, she was sadder, distanced and always wore black as a sign of eternal mourning. After Ibrahim’s execution we see Kosem with Ahmed's portrait and Anastasia- in this vision Anastasia accuses Kosem of killing her sons not because it is true but here Kosem feels the burden and blames herself.

I like character of Kosem Sultan...her only last mistake that she tried to kill her grandson.... But no one like Kosem Sultan.... from she we got lesson about human beings...I am so inspired from her...She all done for people....There nothing else remaining to did... she lived and did very much better for long life span like an angel or Parinda send by God.

They could have built a little house for Sultans or any relatives who were mentally ill in the grounds of one of the palaces with a wall around it so they could at least walk around a garden and see out of the windows. After all there was plenty of money and plenty of staff

Reading up on the history of Kosem and her assassination and how many were outraged by it.
Turhan could have waited til Kosem died naturally instead of fighting her for power. Turhan could have gotten along with her mother in law until her time came. It is annoying how these women wanted that power so badly.
Turhan’s assassination of a Valide Sultanna caused riots etc. and was Kosem really planning to murder her grandson 😢 this is so sad. Turhan poisoned her son’s mind against his grandmother to get power. The grandmother plotted to murder her grandson and daughter in law to maintain her status and the daughter had her assassinated instead. 😢

No one is innocent here. Did they really get a peaceful sleep after killing others for their selfish reasons.

magnificent great valide sultan, the empire never saw such a strong sultana before or after. She is the longest and most powerful valide sultan of ottoman history. She ruled for many years, no other ruler in ottoman history, not a sultan nor sultana ruled for so long. Her ending was not as we saw in series, turhan had nothing to do with anything she did not have such authority. It did not matter who 'sits' on throne, son or grandson or great grandson.. no matter, she sits on throne and she is the valide sultan. Long live valide sultan!!!

For the rest of the day, I was down in the dumps once the episode concluded; it was as if the world had ended. Yes, life as a Sultan or Sultana is far from easy. Treason, murder, deceit, treachery, and conspiracy were the price that everyone was willing to pay for absolute control! There is truth to the saying, "Heavy bears the crown:." My heart aches for Kosem; she should have retired at old age, given up her ambitions, and lived a happy, secure life. She possessed wealth and opulence, after all. However, this is only my opinion....

Wish the show runners had depicted what actually happened instead of depicting Kosem to be a power hungry person as they did in the end. She felt guilty about both Murad and Ibrahim’s death, but she was responsible for neither. The show dramatized the end and made Atike and others blame Kosem when in reality she couldn’t do anything to stop it since most members of the council had already collided with Turhan and issued a Fatwa. How can a woman who loved and raised the sons of other women as her own, want to poison her own nine years old grandson for the sake of power? It makes no sense at all. Such unreasonable, nonsensical dramatization! Kosem was honorable, conscientious and well loved by the people, which was proven in the three days of mourning after her assassination. Women in power have been vilified throughout history because most societies are patriarchal and do not approve of women who establish themselves in their own right and the showrunners had a responsibility and wonderful opportunity to portray real facts instead of giving in to dramatic effects.

Great scene, seeing Kosem Sultan hiding in a cupboard, dragged out, killed. All the concubines pulling off her pearls.
And Sultan Turhan ready to step into her shoes, standing over and above her.
Powerful, Mind boggling Ending

Ever since I first saw the execution of Mustapha in the other series, I realized the tragedy. You have the power over life and death, you order the execution of your child, parent, loved one and you suffer the consequences all your life.

I think such conspiracies and killings were normal in that era. Sultans killed their sons, kosem sultan gave her consent to kill her son Ibrahim. Sultan Mehmed 3 who was the father of sultan Ahmed 1 killed his 19 brothers when he ascended the throne.
