Minecraft's community has been in uproar recently due to controversy surrounding the Mob Vote.

Hi!

Welcome to RelaxPlay.

Key Link(s):

Mods I generally use:

My System:
- NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2060 6GB
- i7 9700k
- 32GB 3200mhz RAM
- 2560 x 1440 144hz IPS Display (Running the game at 1080p due to performance issues at native resolution in combination with ray traced shaders)
I can achieve about 45-60FPS with my current System and Mod setup (using RTX Shaders, other shaders give performance upwards of 70-150fps). Overall, a playable experience.

It’s kinda like the Pokémon situation, both lack competition and are so big and a part of so many’s childhoods that it’ll be difficult to make an actual effort to “oppose” Mojang.

I think a big thing to note is 1.16 - 1.18 were all developed with a good amount of the development time done work from home. Where as 1.19 - 1.20 were developed with Microsoft partially mandating a return to offices, and many other willingly doing so. Work from home impacted some companies negatively, while other companies like Mojang produced their best updates while largely working from home. It appears the return to office is impacting them in the reverse way.

This has also negatively impacted other companies, even beyond gaming.

They to stop adding things and actually literally update what's already in the game.
1.13, 1.14, and 1.16 did exactly that and we loved them

A couple big things missing about how Mojang is releasing updates is that they have a cycle big update-small update and back again so is fairly normal to have small feature updates. The other thing is that sure they might be 600 software developers but that doesn't mean they are all hands on deck when it comes to adding new features as it's common that in these smaller updates are the most bug fixes and they have been working on some of the worst to debug (usually the oldest ones on the bug tracker) but you know stability doesn't sell nowadays.

I dont really care much about stopthemobvote, yes everyone wants all of the mobs in the game but that wont happpen.
Essentially what Mojang wants the community to do is to speak more about minecraft or in other words: "hype".

One other thing that bothers me a bit is the Propaganda for stopthemobvote. I know (or hope xd) that its supposed to be a joke but what they did is reusing Propaganda from nazi Germany and replaced.

Stopthemobvote is just failing miserably as they are just doing what Mojang wants them to do...

This video is well made. will definitely be subbing for more! I honestly don't understand how Mojang could think the mob votes are a good idea. When it was just the one, it was a cool moment for engagement. But when its an annual thing and the other mobs will never see the light of day again, all it does is cause disappointment and resentment to snowball, until you have a petition with over 100k signatures. I still have yet to see any news about the badlands update, which is a biome that has desperately needed some new life injected into it.

I will now leave you with a quote I read under mojangs mob vote post on twitter:
"42% of people voted for the armadillo. that means that 57% of people voted against it."

I have some ideas. Perhaps alongside the 3 new mob proposals every year, the runner up from the previous year should also be an option. This would allow a second chance to those who felt left out when their choice didn't win, while also holding the aspect that the votes are important, because the other 2 mobs will be gone forever.

Alternatively the mob vote could be for which mob is added first, while the runner up is added later, and third place is added last. This would partially detract from the importantance of each vote, because they would all be added eventually, but it would offer some solace to those who lost the mob vote, because their choice will still end up in the game eventually.

Unrelated side note, new passive mobs should drop their own new kind of meat. I would have voted for the crab if it also dropped crab meat.

I don't think comparing games to physical products is very accurate. Games are more like an art than a physical product like a CPU in the way that enjoyment of them is qualitative and can vary between people rather than there being objective measures of which is better like with CPUs. You can also only have one CPU for each computer, but you can have more than one survival sandbox game, competition in games is very different than competition for physical products because of this. More competition wouldn't drive more high quality updates since a game similar enough to minecraft for the majority of people prefer it over minecraft and not purchase both would have to be almost the exact same game

Also, you claimed that the mob votes would only keep the winner and the losers would never be added into the game, but this is not true. Its always been the case that the winner would be added first and the losers would be added in the future, even in this latest mob vote, Vu Bui brought up the fact that the frogs lost their vote but still got added into the game when announcing the penguin got the least votes in order to reassure people that . Not trying to be rude or anything, but just make sure to do thorough research before making a video like this.

I don't like Trash the mob vote. I mean literally their Main argument is just not true Mojang can and will add some of the mobs even tho they lost the vote but it will take a probably Long time.

Usually I find your content to be well-thought-out, but this video is just weird.
You claim not to be a game dev or knowing the internal structure of mojang, yet make claims about how much content should be in an update. Furthermore, "minecraft has no competition" is stretching the truth a bit far to make a point. Not only are there plenty of sandbox games (like terraria), minecraft also is in competition with other video games which is a massive industry. No one ever seams to acknowledge the fact that these updates are free. I will agree that the mob vote does encourage strife and competition in the community, but that doesn't mean people should have tantrums because their choice didn't win.
