The 2024 Buick Enivsta is an all-new compact crossover. This new model is so popular that Buick dealers are having a hard time keeping any in inventory. Meanwhile, the 2024 Honda HR-V enters the new model year as a carryover model after a full redesign for 2023. The HR-V commonly presents the same problem for Honda dealerships in that they are hard to keep on the lot long. That is a great problem to have if you are in the car sales business but how do these two models measure up for potential buyers? See a side-by-side comparison in today’s Vehicle Visionary video to find out!

I bought the Envista ST last month. So far, I’ve been very pleased with its performance. Even with the small engine, it had plenty of pickup and it cruised very well on the highway. Remote start, heated seats & steering wheel, sunroof, for 27K.

Having worked on both vehicles, the HRV is leaps & bounds more efficient/easier to work with as well as maintain. The shocking discovery was how cheaply made the Envista materials overall were throughout the vehicle compared to the Honda. That likely explains the cheaper price builds on the Buick. Although the Envista has some nice bell whistle features & smaller cargo efficient design; the HRV overall maintains greater performance, durability, & longevity on the road.

The telltale signs here are that the Envista was a recycled model design of a cancelled coupe car, while the HRV’s recent overhaul was a complete redesign of the subcompact category. Allowing Honda to polish on an already existent product within said line, while the Envista was a reshell of spare parts not graded well enough for their top end products.

The Envista looks more expensive, while the HRV feels & smoothly drives more expensive. Head to head we’d rate the Buick Envista a 5/10 & the Honda HRV an 8/10. Hope this helps!

When you were describing the Envista engine you said it was a 4-cylinder engine, it is not, it's a 3-cylinder engine.

I would choose the Envista it has a sporty yet classic look to it

My mom just bought a base Envista on my recommendation, I always recommend GM first due to parts availability and parts pricing, and how easy it is to find mechanics to work on them. Even though we get a lot of snow, nobody in my family has ever owned an AWD car. Only FWD and RWD. It really isn't necessary if you have good tires and know how to drive. The base Envista is the one I would always recommend due to the 17 inch wheels and non low profile tires. All terrain tires are available to fit the base Envista and should be decent in the snow with them.

The Buick is really nice. I really don't need AWD, and it looks far better.

I like the Envista. As soon as I got it home I would toss that parcel tray into the attic. With the dark tinted windows it's not neccessary. I test drove one and with three people in the car was very impressed with it's performance.

Envista for me.

The lower power numbers on the Envista are a bit misleading because the vehicle is a lightweight, at its heaviest trim it's about the same if not lighter than the lightest HR-V. It doesn't need the same power to match the acceleration of other vehicles in its class. Don't get me wrong, it's not fast, but it's quick.

Biggest question mark with the Envista is the engine longevity. If it's anything like the 1.4T, there shouldn't be any abnormal issues. Those motors have average reliability. Taken care of they will hit 200k before major issues, abused about 150k before having major issues. But no doubt being forced air induction it will be more prone to wear than any natural aspirated motor, regardless of manufacturer. I will say though, that 3 cylinder engine sounds pretty darn good at open throttle.

Long story short, the HR-V is the safe option. The Envista is the exciting option.

For my money I'm buying the Envista and trying to pay it off early.

The Honda HRV is the way to go. The Buick 3 cylinder turbo, direct injection WILL have major problems. The Honda is NOT turbo, NOT direct injection and has a larger engine. True reliability of old school Honda designed motor! No carbon build up on the intake valves as the Honda has multi port fuel injection! Honda is larger too. Honda has it for the win!

The Buick’s exterior and interior is just way more upscale and the technology/software is way better too. If a larger engine or AWD is what you want you’d be looking at a Encore GX. The Honda looks and feels cheaper everywhere, still a nice vehicle.

Envista in the ST trim with the upgraded 19" wheels is the model I would choose. Between 28k and 29k nicely equipped. Def would opt for the technology package that includes the side mirror blind spot monitoring as it does have a significant blind spot IMO based on test drive.

I just bought a 2024 HR-V Sport, traded in my 2022 Civic EX. The engine in the HR-V Sport is only 158 HP, I'm not a fast driver and not in a hurry. Quick enough for me and Honda has been using this 2.0 liter engine for many years. It is dependable PERIOD ! This is like my 8th Honda vehicle I have owned. I owned a 2020 HR-V EX and traded that in for the 2022 Civic EX. Missed the AWD up here in Northern NY. Need it for the winters.

I never liked Detroit nameplates because their designs had always been unrefined (i.e. ugly!)

But the Envista is an exception. It looks like a Lexus NX - a $46k luxury car!

Great job, Buick!

The Envista has a 3-cylinder engine. Hard to take you seriously when get that wrong right from the start! The seat slant in the Envista is affected by the headrest.

Hand down the Envista why because of it looking like sedan crossover which looks like a carbon copy of the Lexus NX 2024 inside and out. Love that it doesn't have rear windshield wiper because that dictates an SUV look It has a great value with all the bells and whistles without the animated sound of a CVT with less torque power... Just wish the Envista trim had up grade in engine size like the Encore 1.3L will give it an ideal touch !! Maybe they will consider that in the 2025 Envista :)) Can't wait to purchase SOLD !!

I love the look of the Envista but really concerned with long term reliability of that little 3 banger turbo. It is GM which creates some doubt in quality. I have a 17 CRV with the turbo with 100, 000 miles. So far not one issue! ….car rides as good as the day I bought it. The HRV though a bit underpowered, that 2.0 engine will last hundreds of thousands of miles. I guess time will tell. In a few years we will see if the 3 banger will hold up

The Buick Envista, the Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer all have 3 cylinder engines. So I would probably check fact the TrailBlazer engine online to see if there is any recalls, mentioned problems as its been out for a few years now. It might help some folks decide if they want to get a Trax or Envista.

Honda with a 2.0 will last 200K + miles reliably. If you want to keep a car a long time then there is no comparing - Honda is it.

Love the look of Buick it's probably the best looking model Buick currently makes. Unfortunately it's extremely underpowered for my taste!

Buick did well with this, but I do hate the trend of putting brake lights and turn signals LOW in the bumper
