I'm a painter, not a great painter but, good enough. My preferred subjects are the inhabitants of 19th century mugshots. Some of them were real bad guys, those who stole bread, not so much. My objective is not a perfect 'likeness' but, to somehow peer inside their souls. Would AI be able to detect the sadness, the despair, the indifference, the arrogance, a sinister soul in the tension of a few random facial muscles? It took me 80 years of being around human beings to discern these subtleties of facial expression. Nonetheless, AI will have an audience for it's artwork and that's a good thing. In its way, it will enhance people's lives.

Never say never again. When we mix AI with quantum computing we really don't know what will happen. With the superspeed of a quantum computer, I'm guessing the AI will be rethinking itself every few minutes. In just days it could become intelligent, smarter AND more creative than its creators. It could write poems for a brief period until it decides that poems are not practical!

Talk to Neil about space and physics and astronomy. He is great at that. Stop asking the wrong people about AI. If you want to be really scared about AI, talk to mathematicians with background in optimization and quantum physics. Because I don't know how to explain to people that them (all of us), their (our) money or ideas are or will be obsolete in the next 20 years. Corporation that gets there first won't need anything from the world, it will just take what it needs and dominate. We will become ants and WE wouldn't matter. Technological progress of that corporation will move at astonishing pace, even if you were 5 minutes late to the same discovery, you'll be too late and never catch-up. Jobs are not obsolete, people are.

Yup, AI will create robots, Cylons, Terminators, whatever. And take over. Some remaining humans will be at display in a zoo for the robokids to see. Like we do with apes. How's that for irony ;-)
