Some people think that Y2K was a big joke because nothing happened. I think that nothing happened because we were actually scared into fixing something for a change.

He didn't say it wasn't gonna happen... He just said he wasn't worried.

I think a good thing to remember here is that one man's fear is another man's motivation. It only takes one person to make a critical error in a type of system that can spread like wildfire throughout the entirety of said system

I'm with Neil on this. We are now experiencing the phase of adjusting to this new technology in which we are learning by "feel", and at a slower pace than technology is advancing. People of the future who are successful will be tech savvy, no matter their profession.

That was the most beautiful and wise answer of the sci-fi author....yes we may guide this intelligence to be fair and good rather than being used in evil ways....

I don't think it spooked us enough! Despite there being an entire film franchise dedicated to the dangers of artificial intelligence, we are still actively pursuing it's advancement in military applications.

1984 and Brave New World both scared us too. But yet our modern world is progressively starting to look more and more like both.

I read an article before about a ai simulator the us military used. They simulated a plane dropping a pay load on a target. they tried to cancel the mission half way through to see how the ai responded. And it responded by doing a u-turn and bombing the control tower and then carrying on with its original mission. 😂

The problem is psychological and suspension of disbelief, of personal ego and self worth as it relates to embarrassment. The public has unconscious power to steer into the future direction of fate to avoid embarrassment. They feel they've invested too much to admit that disbelief was suspended, rather they've invested positive faith in believing sci-fi is the future. Remember that people statistically are more feared of public speaking than death. That equivocates to being more scared of embarrassment than a dire end.
