--------
In this clip, Vlad asked Neil deGrasse Tyson about his thoughts on Elon Musk saying that AI is a serious threat to humankind, and Neil stated that he “thinks a lot about computers.” He then went on to speak about how we’ve come a long way since the “Turing test” in the 1950s that tests a computer’s ability to exhibit AI. Neil went on to point out the ELIZA program from the 1960s that explored communication between humans and computers using AI. From there, Neil pointed out that computers doing calculations is also a form of AI, which he added that he is thankful for. This led to Neil stating that AI should be embraced to complete daunting jobs in society, and he pointed out how AI could be destructive.

it's amazing how Neil can answer these tough questions by pulling together information from all over, and communicating it persuasively in the blink of an eye.

That last joke was GOLD 🤣
The Internet/ AI doesn’t know anything WE as humans don’t already know lol. We’re literally the ones feeding it information.

This is unironically the most reasonable take I have heard on AI

I remember one of the military guys recently comparing AI to any technology. Fire can be used for good or bad. Nuclear fission can be used for good or bad, so can AI.

I'm a layman but here's how I see it. Look at human history and all the awful horrible things humans have been capable of and done to one another. Now put advanced technology in that species' hands. Shouldn't that be scary enough on it's own?

I very much like the ending sentence from Neil: ..."you know what an AI will never know... Things which are not on the Internet".
Beautiful, Neil' style 😊

So essentially we can beat AI using the old Captain Kirk trick from an old 60s Star Trek episode…

See my problem with AI is the fact we have it writing poems and doing painting, while the humans are still working for a living. That’s backwards to me.

He’s right about ai isn’t as dangerous as people think like in movies. But it is somewhat dangerous in terms of national security. I think war and the environment is much more dangerous
