As another comment pointed out you ran the half marathon at 2 completely different effort. No shoe on earth is cutting 24mins off a half marathon

Just since advise from a runner and lifter: try not to use a max cushion for squats, it’ll throw off your stability and cause injury. For lifting typically you need a flat sole so you can plant your feet correctly.

I run in the Clifton 9’s, great shoe, just not fit lifting.

The worst “review” or “comparison” ever

Nah man, that cant be true. What is it about the heartrate being 20 beats higher (on average?) in the faster runs? You gotta match intensity for a even comparison 😅

Note: you want shoes that are flat + wide toe box for lifting especially for stability

“Average runner” then runs a half marathon

Bro Ross has been having a lot of nice running shoes like altra, brooks, hokas, and ASICS lately and it’s awesome

Sorry but the heart rate gave you away the difference isn't as big as it seems.
Normal old Hoka shoes time 2:14 pace 10:07 mile heart rate 142

Carbon Hoka Shoes
run 1 1:49 pace heart Rate 162

Carbon Hoka Shoes
run 2 1:52 pace heart Rate 163

Good try but the HR data gave it away. No way that you can run at your max with an average HR of 143 unless if you're very unfit and in your 70's.
And there's also no way that the shoes will give you that much performance benefit even if you're a responder (not everyone runs faster with carbon plates shoes, studies say). Honestly, those carbon shoes are one of the slowest that you can buy.

Love the video! But like the dude said be careful from squats with high/soft cushion. Low and hard soles are thw way to go. Barefoot is even better for squats 👍

I know you are faster and better runner than me, but i would suggest you do lower body strength exercises barefoot, running shoes are extremely unstable for heavy lifting. Hope you give it a try and keep up great work

The real miracle is that he put 330 miles on Clifton 9s. Mine feel like flat mushy garbage and begin to bite into my ankles after like 150, 200 max. Shoes just are not made to last

BRO DID ALMOST 30 MIN FASTER WITH THE CARBON PLATED

The plate made you push harder and the Clifton’s keep you slow

As a miler I just wanna put it out there that not just anyone can run a fast mile and that all disciplines of endurance running are extremely difficult to excel at, no hate here just saying if the mile is easy you’re probably not going all out

Yeah… you’re not dropping 20+ minutes off your time because of shoes…

Trust me when I say you will get a lot more life out of your shoes if you just use a couple pairs just for running, and then use another pair for workouts or just casual use
